Safety Instructions & Warnings

Read and understand all instructions before operating the chainsaw. Failure to follow warnings can result in serious injury or death.

HazardPrecaution
KickbackAlways hold saw firmly with both hands; use reduced-kickback chain; do not saw with tip.
Hearing DamageWear approved hearing protection during operation.
Eye InjuryAlways wear safety glasses or face shield.
Fire/ExplosionRefuel in well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. No smoking.
VibrationTake regular breaks to reduce risk of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).

WARNING! Never operate a chainsaw when fatigued, under the influence, or in poor weather conditions.

Technical Specifications

Assembly & Initial Setup

Assemble the chainsaw before first use. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on studs, fit chain over sprocket and bar groove, tension chain correctly.
  2. Fill Fuel Tank: Use fresh, high-quality gasoline mixed with STIHL 2-stroke oil at 50:1 ratio.
  3. Fill Chain Oil Tank: Use STIHL chain oil or equivalent for lubrication.
  4. Check Chain Tension: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely by hand.

CAUTION! Always wear protective gloves when handling the chain. Chain is extremely sharp.

Controls & Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Main Components: Front Handguard, Throttle Trigger, Throttle Trigger Lockout, Stop Switch, Choke Lever, Decompression Valve (if equipped), Master Control Lever (combines choke/run/stop), Fuel Tank Cap, Oil Tank Cap, Chain Brake Lever, Chain Catcher, Muffler, Spark Plug.

Operation: Master Control Lever sets starting (choke), run, and stop positions. Throttle Trigger Lockout must be depressed before throttle can be engaged. Chain Brake stops chain rotation instantly if activated manually or by kickback.

Fuel & Lubrication

Use correct fuel and oil mixtures to ensure performance and longevity.

  1. Fuel Mix: Unleaded gasoline (min. 89 octane) with STIHL 2-Stroke Engine Oil at 50:1 ratio.
  2. Chain Oil: Use STIHL chain oil or a high-quality biodegradable bar & chain oil.
  3. Refueling: Clean area around caps. Use funnel. Wipe spills immediately.
  4. Storage: For long-term storage, run engine dry or add fuel stabilizer.

WARNING! Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel outdoors, away from ignition sources.

Starting & Stopping Procedure

Follow the correct cold and warm starting procedure.

  1. Cold Start: Engage chain brake. Set Master Control to choke (full down). Pull starter rope until engine fires. Move lever to half-throttle position. Pull again to start. Briefly blip throttle to disengage choke.
  2. Warm Start: Set Master Control to run position. Pull starter rope.
  3. Stopping: Release throttle. Press stop switch to "0" or set Master Control to stop position.

Tip: Place saw on firm ground, hold front handle with left hand, place right foot in rear handle for stability when starting.

Operation & Cutting Techniques

Proper technique ensures safety and efficiency.

  1. Basic Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, firm footing.
  2. Grip: Hold handles firmly with thumbs wrapped around.
  3. Bucking (Cutting Logs): Support log properly. Cut from top side, avoid contact with ground.
  4. Felling Trees: Notify others, plan escape path. Make notch cut, then felling cut. Use wedges if needed.
  5. Kickback Prevention: Do not cut with upper quadrant of bar tip. Maintain high chain speed during cut.

WARNING! Never operate chainsaw above shoulder height or with one hand.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance is critical for safe operation.

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Inspect for loose parts or damage.
Every 10 HoursClean air filter. Check spark plug condition.
Every 20 HoursClean cooling fins, check fuel filter, clean chain brake mechanism.
Every 100 HoursReplace fuel filter, clean carburetor (or as needed), check clutch and sprocket.
AnnuallyProfessional inspection recommended.

Chain Sharpening & Bar Care

A sharp chain reduces effort and risk.

  1. Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 4.0mm or 4.8mm). Maintain correct filing angle (typically 30°). File all cutters to equal length.
  2. Depth Gauge Setting: Use a flat file and depth gauge tool to maintain proper raker height.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly. Flip bar weekly for even wear. Dress bar rails with a flat file if burred.
  4. Chain Lubrication: Ensure oiler port on bar is clear. Adjust oil flow if equipped.

CAUTION! Secure the bar in a vise before sharpening. Wear cut-resistant gloves.
