Safety Instructions

Read and understand all safety warnings before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety helmet, goggles, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toed boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of bystanders, especially children. Ensure secure footing and no tripping hazards.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors, with engine off and cool. Use clean, fresh fuel mix. Wipe spills immediately.
  4. Kickback Awareness: Be aware of the kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar nose). Never cut with the nose. Hold saw firmly with both hands.
  5. Carrying & Transport: Engage chain brake when carrying. Use scabbard on guide bar.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. This is a powerful tool, not a toy.

Assembly & Preparation

Assemble the chainsaw before first use.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Loosen bar nuts. Place chain over sprocket, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top of bar. Fit bar onto studs. Adjust tension (see section 9). Tighten nuts.
  2. Fill Fuel: Use a mix of high-quality unleaded gasoline (min. 90 octane) and 2-stroke oil at a 50:1 ratio (check specific manual). Shake well before filling.
  3. Fill Chain Oil: Use proper bar and chain oil. Fill oil tank.
  4. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and chain brake function smoothly.

CAUTION! Never use straight gasoline or automotive motor oil. This will destroy the engine.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Main Components: Rear handle with throttle trigger, front handle, chain brake lever, throttle lockout, choke lever, decompression valve (if equipped), master control lever (combines choke/stop functions on some models), fuel cap, oil cap.

Operation: Throttle lockout must be depressed before throttle trigger can be engaged. Pulling the chain brake lever forward (towards bar) engages the brake; pulling it back disengages. The decompression valve reduces cylinder pressure for easier starting.

Starting Procedure

Follow these steps for a cold start.

  1. Place on Ground: Set saw on flat, clear ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Activate Choke: Move master control lever or choke to FULL CHOKE position.
  3. Prime/Pump Fuel (if equipped): Press fuel bulb several times until visible.
  4. Decompression: Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  5. Pull Starter: Hold front handle down with left foot. Grip rear handle with right hand. Pull starter cord sharply until engine 'pops' (usually 3-5 pulls).
  6. Move to Half Choke: Move lever to HALF CHOKE position.
  7. Pull Again: Pull starter cord. Engine should start. If not, return to full choke for 1-2 more pulls.
  8. Warm Up: Once running, squeeze throttle briefly to disengage choke. Allow to idle for 30 seconds.
  9. Disengage Brake: Pull chain brake lever back towards you to release brake. Saw is ready.

Warm Start: Use HALF CHOKE or RUN position only.

Operation & Cutting Techniques

Proper technique ensures safety and efficiency.

  1. Basic Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, left foot slightly forward. Hold saw firmly with both hands, thumbs wrapped around handles.
  2. Buckling (Cutting Logs on Ground): Support log. Cut from top. For large logs, cut 1/3 from top, roll log, finish cut from opposite side to avoid pinching.
  3. Felling Trees: For professionals only. Requires notch cut and back cut. Plan escape path. Consider wind, lean, and obstacles.
  4. Avoiding Pinch: Do not cut with the guide bar's upper quadrant. If bar gets pinched, stop engine, use wedge or lever to open cut. Do not try to pull saw out while running.
  5. Let the Saw Do the Work: Apply light pressure. Do not force. Maintain high chain speed during cut.

WARNING! Never operate above shoulder height. Never cut with one hand.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures longevity and safety.

IntervalTask
Before Each UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check for loose nuts/bolts. Inspect for damage.
Daily (or every 5 hrs)Clean air filter. Check fuel filter in tank. Clean cooling fins and guide bar groove.
Weekly (or every 25 hrs)Clean spark arrestor screen (muffler). Check spark plug condition/gap.
Monthly (or every 100 hrs)Replace fuel filter. Clean carburetor (if performance drops). Check anti-vibration elements.
AnnuallyReplace spark plug. Clean fuel tank. Have professional check piston/cylinder condition.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

A sharp, properly tensioned chain is critical.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Using scrench tool, turn tensioning screw until chain fits snugly against bar but can be pulled around by hand. Tighten bar nuts. Re-check tension.
  2. Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 4.0mm or 5/32"). File each cutter at the factory-set angle (usually 30°). File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges (rakers) with a flat file and gauge to maintain proper height difference.

Tip: Sharpen chain frequently (every 1-2 tanks of fuel) for best performance. A dull chain causes excessive wear and is dangerous.

Storage Guidelines

Prepare saw for long-term storage (>30 days).

  1. Drain all fuel from tank and carburetor. Run engine until it stops to clear fuel lines.
  2. Remove, clean, and oil the chain. Store separately.
  3. Clean entire saw thoroughly.
  4. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of 2-stroke oil into cylinder. Pull starter cord slowly 2-3 times to coat cylinder. Reinstall plug.
  5. Store in a dry, clean, and secure place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Old fuel will gum up the carburetor. Always use fresh fuel mix.
