Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all contents. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar and Chain: Place bar over studs, loop chain around bar in correct direction, engage drive links in sprocket, tighten bar nuts finger-tight.
  2. Adjust Chain Tension: Use tensioning knob to raise bar tip, adjust until chain fits snugly against bar but pulls freely, then tighten bar nuts securely.
  3. Fill Fuel Tank: Use fresh, unleaded gasoline mixed with 2-cycle engine oil at a 50:1 ratio (check manual for specific oil).
  4. Fill Oil Tank: Use high-quality bar and chain oil.
  5. Check Controls: Ensure chain brake disengages, throttle trigger and lockout work smoothly.

WARNING! Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE): safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots. Keep bystanders away.

First-Time Operation

Perform pre-start checks in a well-ventilated area away from sparks or flames.

  1. Place saw on firm ground. Engage chain brake by pushing lever forward.
  2. Set Master Control Lever to CHOKE position (cold start).
  3. Press primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible.
  4. Pull starter rope briskly until engine 'pops' (usually 3-5 pulls).
  5. Move Master Control Lever to FAST IDLE/HALF CHOKE position.
  6. Pull starter rope again until engine starts. Let run for 10 seconds.
  7. Squeeze throttle trigger to return to idle. Disengage chain brake by pulling lever back.
  8. Allow saw to warm up for 1-2 minutes before cutting.

CAUTION! Never drop-start the chainsaw. Always hold firmly with both hands. Keep the chain away from any object until at full throttle.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Master Control Lever: CHOKE, HALF CHOKE/FAST IDLE, RUN, STOP. Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed to engage throttle. Chain Brake Lever: Engages (forward) or disengages (backward) the chain brake. Chain Tensioning Knob: Tool-less adjustment. Decompression Valve: Button to press for easier starting.

Maintenance Controls: Air Filter Cover, Spark Plug Access, Carburetor Adjustment Screws (may be limited for EPA compliance).

Fuel & Lubrication

Fuel Mix: Use 89 octane or higher unleaded gasoline. Mix with a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil certified for air-cooled engines at a 50:1 ratio. Shake container thoroughly. Do not use fuel older than 60 days.

Bar & Chain Oil: Use a quality chainsaw bar oil. In cold weather (<40°F/4°C), use a winter-grade oil. Check oil level frequently and refill as needed.

  1. Always refuel in a safe area, with engine off and cool.
  2. Wipe away any spills before starting.
  3. Run saw for a minute after refueling to distribute oil on the bar.

Tip: Proper lubrication is critical to prevent bar and chain damage.

Cutting Techniques

Always plan your cut and escape path. Maintain secure footing and balance.

  1. Starting a Cut: Bring saw to full throttle before the chain contacts wood.
  2. Basic Felling: Use proper notch and backcut techniques. Use wedges if needed.
  3. Limbing: Cut limbs from the bottom side when possible. Beware of spring-back.
  4. Bucking (cutting logs): Support log off the ground. Cut from top side to avoid pinching.
  5. Avoiding Kickback: Do not let the nose (tip) of the bar contact any object. Hold saw firmly with right hand on rear handle, left hand on front handle, thumbs wrapped.

WARNING! Kickback is a sudden, upward reaction that can occur when the chain at the nose of the bar contacts an object. It can throw the saw back toward the operator. Always be alert and use proper grip and technique.

Safety Features

Chain Brake: Stops the chain within milliseconds if activated manually by the front hand guard or automatically by inertia during a kickback event. Test before each use.

Throttle Lockout: Prevents accidental throttle engagement.

Front Hand Guard: Protects left hand and activates manual chain brake.

Right-Hand Guard: Protects right hand from debris.

Spark Arrestor Muffler: Helps prevent emission of hot sparks.

Maintenance & Storage

Daily/Pre-Use: Check chain tension and sharpness, check fuel/oil levels, inspect for loose parts or damage, clean air filter, check chain brake function.

Regular: Clean cooling fins, sharpen chain, clean spark arrestor screen, replace spark plug annually.

Storage (>30 days): 1. Drain all fuel from tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor. 2. Remove chain, clean it and the guide bar groove, soak chain in oil. 3. Clean entire saw. 4. Store in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance other than refueling or chain tensioning.
