Safety Information

Always wear proper safety gear and follow operating procedures.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps/pants, and steel-toe boots.
  2. Pre-Operation Check: Inspect chain tension, sharpness, bar condition, and all fasteners before each use.
  3. Clear Work Area: Ensure no bystanders within 15 feet; clear area of tripping hazards.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Use fresh gasoline/oil mix (50:1).

WARNING! Never operate a chainsaw with one hand. Always maintain secure footing and balance. Be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip).

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all components. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar: Place bar onto mounting studs, ensuring chain tensioning pin engages in bar hole.
  2. Install Chain: Place chain over bar sprocket, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  3. Install Bar Nut: Hand-tighten bar nuts, then adjust chain tension (see section 9).
  4. Fill Tanks: Add fresh fuel mix (50:1 2-stroke oil) to fuel tank and bar/chain oil to oil tank.
  5. Check Controls: Verify throttle trigger, throttle lockout, chain brake, and stop switch function properly.

CAUTION! Chain must be properly tensioned—snug against bar but able to be pulled around by hand. Overtightening can damage bar and chain.

Specifications

Controls and Functions

Main controls located on top and rear handle.

Top Handle: Chain brake lever, throttle trigger lockout, decompression valve button.

Rear Handle: Throttle trigger, stop switch, choke lever, primer bulb.

Right Side: Master control lever (combines choke/run/stop positions).

Left Side: Chain tensioning screw, bar nuts.

Safety Features: Chain brake (manual/inertia), throttle trigger lockout, right-hand guard, spark arrestor muffler.

Starting the Engine

Follow cold start procedure for initial start; warm start for hot engine.

  1. Place saw on firm, level ground. Engage chain brake by pushing forward until click.
  2. Set master control lever to CHOKE position (full down). Press decompression valve if equipped.
  3. Press primer bulb 5-6 times until fuel is visible in bulb.
  4. Pull starter rope briskly 2-3 times until engine "pops".
  5. Move master control lever to RUN position (middle).
  6. Pull starter rope until engine starts. Allow to idle for 30 seconds before disengaging chain brake.
  7. For warm start: Set lever to RUN position only; no choke or primer needed.

Tip: Never drop-start or start the saw above waist height. Always maintain secure footing.

Operating Procedures

Proper cutting techniques ensure safety and efficiency.

  1. Basic Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, left foot slightly forward.
  2. Grip: Hold front handle with left hand, rear handle with right hand. Thumbs wrapped underneath.
  3. Starting Cut: Apply light throttle, let chain touch wood gradually. Do not force saw.
  4. Bucking (cutting felled logs): Support log properly. Cut from top down. Beware of pinch points.
  5. Limbing: Work from trunk outward. Keep bar tip clear of ground.
  6. Kickback Prevention: Never cut with bar tip. Be aware of wood tension. Always use reduced-kickback chain.
  7. Shutdown: Allow engine to idle for 30 seconds, then move stop switch to OFF position.

WARNING! Never operate chainsaw above shoulder height or on a ladder. Always plan escape path from falling tree or limb.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck chain tension, sharpness, bar condition, fasteners, fuel/oil levels
Every 5 hoursClean air filter, check spark plug, clean cooling fins
Every 10 hoursClean spark arrestor screen, check fuel filter
Every 20 hoursReplace air filter, check carburetor adjustment
Every 50 hoursReplace spark plug, clean carburetor, check anti-vibration elements
SeasonallyDrain fuel for storage, sharpen drive sprocket, replace bar if worn

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance. Use only genuine Pro Plus replacement parts.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

Proper chain maintenance is critical for safe operation.

  1. Chain Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Adjust tensioning screw until chain is snug against bar but can be pulled around by hand. Tighten bar nuts while lifting bar tip.
  2. Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (.325"). Maintain 30° filing angle. File each cutter equally. Check depth gauges with gauge tool.
  3. Filing Procedure: Secure bar in vise. File from inside cutter outward. Maintain original angles. File all cutters to same length.
  4. Depth Gauge Setting: Use depth gauge tool to maintain proper height (0.025" for standard chain).

Tip: Sharpen chain at first sign of dullness—pulling saw through cut, fine dust instead of chips.

Storage Guidelines

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Short-term (under 30 days): Add fuel stabilizer to tank, run engine 2 minutes to circulate treated fuel through system.
  2. Long-term (over 30 days): Drain fuel tank completely. Run engine until it stops from fuel starvation. Drain bar oil tank.
  3. Clean entire saw, removing sawdust and debris.
  4. Remove chain, clean in solvent, coat with oil, store in sealed bag.
  5. Store in dry, cool place away from ignition sources.

CAUTION! Never store chainsaw with fuel in tank for extended periods. Gasoline deteriorates and can damage carburetor.
