Parts Identification

Key components of the Poulan Wild Thing 2375 chainsaw.

  1. Front Handle/Hand Guard: Includes chain brake lever.
  2. Rear Handle: Contains throttle trigger and throttle lockout.
  3. Engine Housing: Houses 40cc 2-cycle engine.
  4. Guide Bar: 18-inch Oregon solid nose bar.
  5. Chain: 3/8-inch low-profile chain.
  6. Chain Tensioner: Tool-free adjustment wheel.
  7. Fuel Tank: Capacity approximately 10 fl oz.
  8. Oil Tank: For automatic bar & chain lubrication.
  9. Starter Assembly: Pull-cord starter.
  10. Muffler: Located on right side.

Assembly & Preparation

Assembling the chainsaw from the box. Most units come partially assembled.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar over studs, loop chain over sprocket and onto bar groove. Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  2. Install Bar Nut & Cover: Place clutch cover over bar, hand-tighten nuts.
  3. Tension Chain: Turn tool-free tensioner wheel clockwise until chain is snug against bar but can be pulled by hand. Tighten bar nuts fully.
  4. Fill Oil Tank: Use recommended bar & chain oil. Check for leaks.
  5. Mix & Add Fuel: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (87 octane minimum) mixed with high-quality 2-cycle oil at a 40:1 ratio (see next section).

CAUTION! Do not start the engine until assembly is complete and you have read the operation section.

Fuel & Oil Mix

The 2-cycle engine requires a gasoline and oil mixture. Do not use straight gasoline or automotive oil.

DANGER! Fuel is extremely flammable. No smoking. Allow engine to cool before refueling.

Starting & Stopping

Proper starting procedure is critical for safety and engine life.

Cold Start Procedure:

  1. Place saw on firm, flat ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Press the primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible.
  3. Set choke lever to FULL CHOKE position.
  4. Pull starter rope briskly 3-5 times until engine "pops".
  5. Move choke lever to HALF CHOKE position.
  6. Pull starter rope again until engine starts. Let run for 10 seconds.
  7. Move choke to RUN position. Squeeze throttle trigger to disengage fast idle.
  8. Disengage chain brake before cutting.

Warm Start: Do not use choke. Follow steps from half-choke position.

Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle for a few seconds, then press and hold the STOP/ON/OFF switch.

Operation & Cutting

Basic cutting techniques for the Wild Thing 2375.

  1. Stance & Grip: Stand firmly with feet apart. Grip front handle with left hand, rear handle with right hand. Thumbs wrapped underneath.
  2. Kickback Avoidance: Do not cut with the upper tip of the bar. Be aware of pinch points when cutting logs under tension.
  3. Basic Cut: Let the chain do the work. Apply light downward pressure. Use full throttle during the cut.
  4. Felling a Tree (For small trees only): Not recommended for large trees. Plan escape path. Make notch cut on falling side, then back cut.
  5. Limbing & Bucking: Support log off ground. Cut from top side. Be cautious of released tension.

Tip: Check chain lubrication frequently. A visible "line" of oil should appear on wood during cutting.

Chain Maintenance

Regular chain care ensures performance and safety.

CAUTION! Always wear heavy gloves when handling the chain. Ensure engine is OFF and spark plug wire is disconnected.

Cleaning & Storage

Proper cleaning and storage prolongs saw life.

  1. After Use: Wipe down saw with a dry cloth. Clean air intake and cooling fins of debris.
  2. Long-Term Storage (Over 30 days):
  3. Pre-Season Check: Before use after storage, inspect all parts, refill with fresh fuel mix, and test operation safely.

WARNING! Never store the chainsaw with fuel in the tank inside a building. Fumes can accumulate and ignite.
