Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach guide bar and chain: Place bar over studs, loop chain over sprocket, align with bar grooves.
  2. Install bar nut and chain cover: Secure with provided nuts, ensure chain moves freely.
  3. Adjust chain tension: Use side-access tensioner screw; proper tension when chain snaps back after pulling.
  4. Fill fuel and oil: Use proper 2-cycle mix in fuel tank; fill bar & chain oil tank.

WARNING! Always wear cut-resistant gloves during assembly. Ensure chain brake is disengaged before starting.

Safety Information

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and chainsaw chaps.
  2. Clear work area: Ensure no bystanders within 15 feet; check for overhead hazards.

Controls and Components

Fuel & Oil Mixing

Use 50:1 fuel/oil ratio for all 2-cycle Poulan chainsaws.

  1. Gasoline: Fresh 87 octane or higher unleaded.
  2. 2-Cycle Oil: ISO-L-EGD or JASO FD certified.
  3. Mixing: Add 2.6 fl oz of oil to 1 gallon of gasoline.
  4. Shake container thoroughly before refueling.

Tip: Never use automotive motor oil or old gasoline. Store mixed fuel no longer than 30 days.

Starting & Operation

Cold Start Procedure:

  1. Place saw on flat ground, clear of debris.
  2. Engage chain brake by pushing hand guard forward.
  3. Move On/Off switch to ON position.
  4. Pull choke knob fully out.
  5. Press primer bulb 5-6 times until fuel is visible.
  6. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires (usually 2-3 pulls).
  7. Push choke knob halfway in.
  8. Pull starter rope again until engine starts.
  9. Allow to warm up 30 seconds, then push choke fully in.
  10. Disengage chain brake before cutting.

WARNING! Never drop-start or start above waist height. Keep firm grip during starting.

Chain Maintenance

Sharpening: Use 5/32” round file and file guide. Maintain 30° cutting angle. Check depth gauges with flat file.

Tension Adjustment: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely by hand. Re-tension after first few minutes of use and periodically during cutting.

Storage & Care

Long-term Storage:

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops.
  2. Remove spark plug, add 1 teaspoon of oil through spark plug hole, pull starter 2-3 times, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean air filter, bar, and chain.
  4. Store in dry, cool place with bar and chain covered.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days. Use fuel stabilizer if needed.
