Safety Information

Read and understand all safety warnings before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.
  2. Clear Work Area: Ensure no bystanders, pets, or obstacles within 15 feet.
  3. Kickback Zone: Avoid contact with the upper tip of the guide bar; this is the primary kickback danger area.
  4. Chain Brake Check: Test chain brake function before each use by engaging with front hand guard.
  5. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources, with engine off and cool.

WARNING! Kickback can cause severe injury or death. Always hold saw firmly with both hands, thumbs wrapped around handles. Do not operate above shoulder height or on a ladder.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly typically requires attaching the guide bar and chain, and filling fluids.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar over studs, loop chain around bar with cutting teeth facing forward on top. Adjust tension.
  2. Fill Bar & Chain Oil: Use recommended bar oil. Fill oil tank to full line.
  3. Prepare Fuel Mix: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (87 octane minimum) mixed with 2-cycle oil at 40:1 ratio (3.2 oz oil per 1 gallon gas). Shake well.
  4. Fill Fuel Tank: Add fuel mix to fuel tank. Avoid spills; wipe any fuel from saw.

CAUTION! Use only high-quality 2-cycle engine oil designed for air-cooled engines. Do not use automotive motor oil or dirty/gasoline.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main Controls: On/Off Switch, Choke Control, Primer Bulb, Throttle Trigger, Throttle Lockout, Chain Brake Lever.

Components: Front Hand Guard, Rear Handle, Fuel Tank Cap, Oil Tank Cap, Muffler, Spark Plug, Air Filter Cover, Chain Tensioner Screw, Decompression Valve (if equipped).

Operation: Set On/Off switch to "I" (On). Engage chain brake for starting. Pull choke for cold start. Press primer bulb 5-6 times. Place on ground, hold rear handle with right hand, front handle with left. Pull starter rope briskly.

Fuel & Oil Preparation

Use fresh fuel mix within 30 days. Stale fuel causes starting and performance issues.

  1. Fuel: 87+ octane unleaded gasoline. Do not use gasoline containing more than 10% ethanol (E10).
  2. Oil: JASO FD or ISO-L-EGD rated 2-cycle engine oil.
  3. Mix Ratio: 40:1. For 1 gallon gasoline, add 3.2 oz oil. Use mixing bottle for accuracy.
  4. Storage: Store fuel mix in approved container labeled "2-Cycle Mix".

Tip: Shake fuel mix container before each refueling to ensure proper oil distribution.

Starting & Operation

Supports standard starting procedure. Always start on clear, level ground.

  1. Cold Start: Set On/Off to "I". Engage chain brake. Pull choke to full out. Press primer 5-6 times. Pull starter rope until engine "pops". Push choke halfway in. Pull starter until engine runs. Disengage chain brake.
  2. Warm Start: Choke off. Pull starter rope.
  3. Cutting: Allow engine to warm 30 seconds. Squeeze throttle trigger to increase RPM before contacting wood. Let chain do the work; avoid forcing.
  4. Stopping: Release throttle, allow chain to stop. Set On/Off switch to "O" (Off).

WARNING! Never drop-start or start the saw while holding it with one hand. Always engage chain brake when starting or carrying saw more than a few steps.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck chain tension, sharpness, bar & chain oil level, fuel level, chain brake function, loose fasteners.
Every 5 hoursClean air filter, check spark plug condition.
Every 10 hoursClean cooling fins, check fuel filter, clean exterior of saw.
Every 20 hoursReplace spark plug (NGK BPMR7A or equivalent), clean muffler screen (if equipped).
SeasonallyReplace fuel filter, inspect bar for wear, replace worn sprocket.

CAUTION! Disconnect spark plug wire before performing any maintenance beyond checking fluids.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

A sharp, properly tensioned chain is critical for safety and performance.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Use adjustment screw to raise bar until chain fits snug against bar but can be pulled around by hand. Tighten bar nuts. Re-check tension after 2-3 minutes of operation.
  2. Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (.325"). File each cutter at 30° angle, maintaining equal length on all cutters. File depth gauges with flat file to proper height (0.025" typically).
  3. Bar Maintenance: Flip bar periodically for even wear. Clean bar groove and oil holes.

Note: Replace chain when cutters are worn to ¼ of original length or if damaged.

Storage Guidelines

Prepare saw for storage if not used for more than 30 days.

  1. Drain all fuel from tank and carburetor by running engine until it stops.
  2. Remove spark plug, add 1 teaspoon of 2-cycle oil through spark plug hole. Pull starter rope slowly 2-3 times to coat cylinder. Reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Loosen chain tension slightly. Store in dry, cool place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never store saw with fuel in tank for extended periods. Fuel degrades and can damage carburetor.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Engine will not startOld fuel, flooded engine, clogged air filter, no sparkUse fresh fuel mix. Wait if flooded. Clean/replace air filter. Check spark plug gap (0.025") and wire connection.
Engine starts then diesClogged fuel filter, dirty carburetor, improper adjustmentReplace fuel filter. Clean carburetor. Adjust idle speed screw (consult manual).
Chain does not turnChain brake engaged, clutch worn, sprocket damagedDisengage chain brake. Inspect clutch and sprocket; replace if worn.
Chain oils poorlyEmpty oil tank, clogged oil passages, worn oil pumpFill oil tank. Clean bar oil holes and tank vent. Inspect oil pump drive.
Excessive vibrationLoose components, unbalanced chain, damaged AV mountsTighten all fasteners. Balance chain by sharpening evenly. Inspect anti-vibration mounts.
OverheatingDirty cooling fins, lean fuel mix, dull chainClean fins. Ensure correct 40:1 mix. Sharpen chain to reduce load.

Reset: For electronic ignition issues, disconnect spark plug wire for 1 minute to reset module.
