The Poulan 2450 is a gas-powered chainsaw designed for general-purpose cutting, pruning, and firewood preparation. It features a 45cc 2-cycle engine, an 18-inch guide bar, automatic oiler, chain brake, and anti-vibration system. Below are key sections for safety, features, assembly, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and specifications.
Read all instructions before use. Wear appropriate PPE: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.
| Hazard | Precaution |
|---|---|
| Kickback | Hold saw firmly with both hands; do not cut with tip of bar. |
| Fuel handling | Refuel in well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. |
| Chain contact | Keep away from body and obstacles; engage chain brake when not cutting. |
| Exhaust fumes | Operate outdoors only; avoid enclosed spaces. |
| Falling debris | Be aware of overhead branches; clear work area. |
WARNING! Never operate a chainsaw while fatigued, under the influence, or in poor weather conditions.
Key components: 45cc 2-cycle engine, 18-inch guide bar, automatic chain oiler, inertia-activated chain brake, anti-vibration handles, primer bulb, choke control, throttle lockout.
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Engine | 45cc, 2-cycle, air-cooled |
| Guide Bar | 18 inches, Oregon® style |
| Chain | .325-inch pitch, 72 drive links |
| Automatic Oiler | Delivers oil to bar and chain during operation |
| Chain Brake | Inertia-activated; stops chain in kickback event |

| Fuel Capacity | Approx. 16.9 fl oz (500 ml) |
| Oil Capacity | Approx. 8.5 fl oz (250 ml) |

Unpack and inspect contents. Assembly requires attaching guide bar and chain, filling with fuel/oil mix.
CAUTION! Use proper fuel mix to avoid engine damage. Ensure chain is installed with cutting teeth facing forward.
Starting procedure: Place on flat surface, engage chain brake, set choke, pull starter cord.
Tip: Allow saw to warm up 30 seconds before cutting. Do not run at idle for extended periods.
WARNING! Disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance.
Keep chain sharp; file at 30° angle. Rotate bar periodically for even wear.
CAUTION! Dull chain increases kickback risk and reduces cutting efficiency.
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | Old fuel, clogged filter, spark plug | Use fresh fuel mix; clean/replace air filter; check spark plug. |
| Engine runs poorly | Carburetor adjustment, fuel line | Adjust H/L screws per manual; inspect fuel line for leaks. |
| Chain doesn't turn | Clutch, sprocket, brake engaged | Check clutch springs; replace worn sprocket; disengage chain brake. |
| Excessive vibration | Loose parts, unbalanced chain | Tighten all bolts/nuts; balance chain by sharpening evenly. |
| Chain throws oil | Over-oiling, wrong oil type | Adjust oiler screw; use correct bar & chain oil. |
Reset: For carburetor, reset to factory settings: H screw 1-1/4 turns out, L screw 1 turn out.
