Safety Features & Precautions

Always wear protective gear: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.

  1. Chain Brake: Inertia-activated; stops chain if kickback occurs or if front hand guard is pushed forward.
  2. Throttle Lockout: Prevents accidental throttle engagement; must be depressed to squeeze trigger.
  3. Right-Hand Guard: Protects hand from chain if it derails.
  4. Anti-Vibration System: Reduces user fatigue.
  5. Muffler: Reduces noise and directs exhaust away.

WARNING! Never operate without proper safety equipment. Keep bystanders away. Do not operate above shoulder height or on a ladder.

Assembly Instructions

For new saw assembly out of the box.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar over studs, align chain with drive sprocket, ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  2. Install Bar Nut & Cover: Place clutch cover over studs, hand-tighten nuts, then tighten with combination wrench.
  3. Adjust Chain Tension: Use tool-free adjuster on side; pull up on bar tip and tighten until chain snaps back when released. Re-tighten cover nuts.
  4. Fill Fluids: Add 2-cycle engine oil/gas mix to fuel tank (see Section 9). Fill bar & chain oil reservoir with proper lubricant.
  5. Check Operation: Pull starter rope slowly until resistance is felt (to prime), then start normally.

CAUTION! Ensure chain is properly tensioned—too tight can damage saw; too loose can derail.

Maintenance Procedures

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity. Perform before each use.

Daily/Pre-Use: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Inspect for loose fasteners. Clean air filter. Check fuel and oil levels.

Weekly/Monthly: Clean cooling fins and muffler area. Inspect spark arrestor screen. Check clutch and sprocket wear. Clean fuel filter in tank.

Seasonal/Annual: Replace spark plug. Clean carburetor and fuel lines. Inspect anti-vibration mounts. Replace fuel line and filter if cracked.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper care extends life of cutting components.

  1. Sharpening: Use round file (5/32" or 4.0mm) and file guide. Maintain 30° cutting angle, 10° top plate angle. File all cutters evenly.
  2. Depth Gauge Setting: Use flat file and gauge to maintain .025" (0.65mm) clearance below cutter.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove weekly. Flip bar monthly for even wear. Dress bar rails with flat file if burred.
  4. Lubrication: Always use proper bar & chain oil. Check oiler output by pointing bar tip at light surface and running at high speed; should see oil line.

Tip: A sharp chain cuts faster, reduces kickback risk, and puts less strain on the engine.

Carburetor Adjustment

Three adjustment screws: L (Low speed), H (High speed), T (Idle). Factory settings: L - 1-1/4 turns out, H - 1 turn out, T - 1 turn out from lightly seated.

  1. Warm up engine for 5 minutes.
  2. Set idle speed (T): Adjust so chain does not move at idle but engine runs smoothly.
  3. Set low speed (L): Turn in until engine falters, then out 1/4 turn for smooth acceleration.
  4. Set high speed (H): With bar/chain installed in wood, adjust for maximum RPM without overspeed (consult manual for max RPM).
  5. Re-check idle and acceleration.

WARNING! Improper adjustment can cause engine damage or unsafe operation. Use tachometer if possible.

Fuel & Oil Recommendations

Fuel: Use fresh 89 octane or higher unleaded gasoline mixed with high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at a 40:1 ratio (3.2 oz oil per 1 gallon gas).

Bar & Chain Oil: Use ISO viscosity grade FG or JASO FB certified oil. In cold weather (<32°F/0°C), use winter-grade oil.

CAUTION! Never use automotive motor oil or old fuel mix. Do not use fuel older than 30 days. Always mix fuel in approved container.

Storage Guidelines

For storage over 30 days.

  1. Drain fuel tank and run carburetor dry.
  2. Remove spark plug, add 1 teaspoon of 2-cycle oil into cylinder, pull starter slowly 2-3 times, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire saw, remove debris from cooling fins, air filter, and guide bar.
  4. Remove chain, clean and soak in oil. Coat bar rails with oil.
  5. Store in dry, cool place, away from ignition sources.

CAUTION! Storing with fuel can cause varnish in carburetor and starting problems.
