Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all contents. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar and Chain: Place bar on mounting studs, fit chain over sprocket and bar, adjust tension.
  2. Fill Fuel Tank: Use fresh gasoline mixed with 2-stroke oil at 50:1 ratio (recommended).
  3. Fill Oil Tank: Use quality bar and chain oil.
  4. Check Chain Tension: Ensure proper tension before each use.

WARNING! Always wear protective gear: gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toe boots during assembly and operation.

First-Time Operation

Perform pre-operation checks before starting.

  1. Check Fuel and Oil: Ensure tanks are filled with correct fluids.
  2. Inspect Chain Sharpness: Use a sharp chain for safe, efficient cutting.
  3. Clear Work Area: Remove tripping hazards and ensure safe footing.
  4. Starting Procedure: Set chain brake, move master control to cold start position, pull starter cord until engine fires, then move to run position.
  5. Warm Up: Allow engine to idle for 30 seconds before cutting.

CAUTION! Never operate chainsaw with loose or damaged parts. Keep bystanders at a safe distance.

Specifications

Controls and Functions

Master Control Lever: Combines choke, start, and run positions. Throttle Trigger: Controls engine speed. Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed to engage throttle. Chain Brake Lever: Manual activation; also inertia-activated. Decompression Valve: Reduces cylinder pressure for easier starting. Chain Tensioner: Adjusts chain tension via side-mounted screw.

Maintenance Controls: Air Filter Cover, Spark Plug Access, Carburetor Adjustment Screws (H, L, T).

Safe Operation Procedures

Always operate with two hands. Maintain secure footing and balance.

  1. Pre-Cut Inspection: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication.
  2. Starting: Place on ground, secure with foot in handle, pull starter cord smoothly.
  3. Cutting: Use full throttle when entering cut. Beware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip).
  4. Carrying: Engage chain brake when moving between cuts.
  5. Shut Down: Allow to idle, then move master control to STOP position.

Tip: Plan escape path from falling tree or limb. Never cut above shoulder height.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

  1. Daily/Before Use: Check chain tension, sharpness, fuel/oil levels, air filter, external fasteners.
  2. Every 10 Hours: Clean air filter, check spark plug condition.
  3. Every 20 Hours: Clean cooling fins, check fuel filter.
  4. Every 50 Hours: Clean carburetor air intake, replace spark plug.
  5. Every 100 Hours: Check piston/cylinder through exhaust port, clean muffler spark arrestor screen.
  6. Annually: Professional inspection recommended.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance. Use only genuine Pioneer parts.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper care extends life of cutting components.

  1. Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 4.0mm / 5/32") and file guide. Maintain correct filing angle (30°).
  2. Depth Gauges: File down rakers (depth gauges) periodically to maintain proper height difference.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly. Flip bar weekly for even wear. Dress bar rails if burred.
  4. Lubrication: Always use oil when cutting. Adjust oiler for conditions (more for hard/dry wood).

CAUTION! A dull chain increases kickback risk and operator fatigue. Replace worn or damaged chains immediately.

Storage Guidelines

Prepare chainsaw for storage to prevent fuel system issues.

  1. Short-term (under 30 days): Run engine dry of fuel or add fuel stabilizer.
  2. Long-term: Drain all fuel from tank and carburetor. Run engine until it stops. Remove spark plug, add a few drops of oil into cylinder, pull starter slowly to coat, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire unit, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Loosen chain tension. Store in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for extended periods without stabilizer. Fuel degrades and can damage carburetor.
