Safety Instructions

Always wear appropriate PPE: helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.

  1. Inspect chain before each use: Check for damage, loose rivets, or excessive wear.
  2. Ensure proper chain tension: Chain should snap back when pulled from guide bar.
  3. Maintain secure grip: Use both hands on chainsaw handles.
  4. Be aware of kickback zone: Upper quadrant of guide bar tip.

WARNING! Kickback can cause severe injury. Always operate chainsaw according to manufacturer instructions. Never operate when fatigued or under influence.

Installation Guide

Ensure chainsaw is off and spark plug disconnected. Follow these steps to install chain on guide bar.

  1. Place guide bar: Position bar on chainsaw, aligning mounting holes.
  2. Loop chain: Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  3. Engage drive links: Fit chain onto bar nose sprocket and into bar groove.
  4. Tighten bar nuts: Hand-tighten, then adjust tension (see Section 6).
  5. Final tensioning: Adjust until chain snaps back properly, then tighten bar nuts securely.

CAUTION! Wear heavy gloves when handling chain. Ensure chain direction is correct (cutters forward on top).

Specifications

Chain Components & Identification

Identify chain by markings on drive links: Pitch (.325), Gauge (.050/.058), and Drive Link count.

Components: Cutter, Tie Strap, Drive Link, Double Guard Link, Rivets.

Double Guard Link: Located between cutters, features two humps that contact wood before cutter, reducing kickback force. Ensure chain is installed with cutters facing forward on top of guide bar. Match chain to guide bar groove width (gauge).

Proper Chain Tensioning

Correct tension prevents derailment and excessive wear.

  1. Loosen bar nuts: Use wrench to slightly loosen nuts.
  2. Adjust tensioning screw: Turn clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen.
  3. Check tension: Pull chain midway on top of bar; it should snap back when released.
  4. Re-tighten bar nuts: Secure nuts while holding bar tip up.
  5. Re-check: Chain should move freely without binding.

Tip: Chain expands when hot; check tension frequently during use.

Sharpening Instructions

Use round file matching cutter diameter (typically 4.0mm or 5/32" for .325 pitch).

  1. Secure bar: Clamp guide bar in vise.
  2. File angle: Maintain 30° angle on top plate; follow existing angle.
  3. File direction: Push file forward across cutter; use consistent strokes.
  4. File depth gauges: Use depth gauge tool to maintain proper height (typically .025" below cutter).
  5. Equal strokes: Sharpen all cutters to same length.

WARNING! Wear eye protection and gloves. Keep file clean; replace when worn.

Maintenance & Lubrication

Regular maintenance ensures longevity and performance.

Lubrication: Always use recommended bar and chain oil. Check oil reservoir before each use. Adjust oil flow rate according to cutting conditions (higher flow for hard/dry wood). Cleaning: Remove debris from guide bar groove and oil holes. Inspect for wear: Replace chain if cutters are severely worn, chipped, or drive links are damaged.

Storage Recommendations

Clean chain thoroughly after use. Apply light oil to prevent rust. Store in dry, cool place away from direct sunlight. Keep in original packaging or sealed container.

CAUTION! Do not store chain loosely; protect cutting edges from damage.
