Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach guide bar and chain: Place bar on studs, align chain, adjust tension.
  2. Fill fuel tank: Use fresh 50:1 gas/oil mix (89 octane minimum).
  3. Fill chain oil tank: Use quality bar and chain oil.
  4. Check controls: Ensure throttle trigger, choke, and stop switch function properly.

WARNING! Always wear protective gear: gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toe boots.

First-Time Operation

Start the chainsaw on the ground, firmly holding the rear handle.

  1. Set chain brake to ON (forward position).
  2. Press primer bulb 5-6 times until fuel is visible.
  3. Set choke to FULL position.
  4. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires (1-3 pulls).
  5. Move choke to HALF position, pull until engine starts.
  6. Allow to warm up 30 seconds, then release chain brake.
  7. Test throttle response before cutting.

CAUTION! Never drop-start or start above waist height. Keep bystanders at least 15 feet away.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls located on top and rear handle.

Top Handle: Choke lever, primer bulb, decompression valve (if equipped). Rear Handle: Throttle trigger, throttle lockout, stop switch, chain brake lever.

Adjustments: Chain tension (side knob), oil pump (screw under clutch cover), carburetor (H, L, LA screws). Maintenance points: Air filter (snap-off cover), spark plug (reach through housing), fuel filter (inside tank).

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal cutting and safety.

  1. Chain tension: Adjust when chain sags from bar rails. Should snap back when pulled.
  2. Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (typically 7/32" for .404"). Maintain 30° top plate angle.
  3. Bar care: Clean bar grooves weekly, flip bar monthly for even wear.
  4. Oiler check: Run saw at high RPM pointed at light surface; oil line should appear.

Tip: Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing chain maintenance.

Engine Operation

Proper operation extends engine life.

  1. Warm up: Run at idle 30 seconds before cutting.
  2. Cutting technique: Use full throttle during cuts; avoid "riding" the chain.
  3. Fuel management: Shut off fuel valve if storing >30 minutes.
  4. Carb adjustment: H screw (high speed) - set for smooth acceleration; L screw (low speed) - set for stable idle; LA screw (idle) - adjust to prevent chain creep.
  5. Air filter: Clean weekly with soapy water, dry completely.
  6. Spark plug: Replace annually or every 100 hours; gap at .025".

WARNING! Never operate without proper chain lubrication. Engine damage will occur.

Safety Features

Chain Brake: Inertia-activated; manual engagement via front hand guard. Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed before throttle trigger engages. Right-Hand Guard: Protects from kickback. Anti-Vibration: Rubber mounts reduce fatigue. Decompression Valve: Reduces pulling effort by 40%.

Storage & Care

For storage >30 days: Drain fuel tank, run carburetor dry, remove chain and clean, store in dry place.

CAUTION! Fuel left in tank will gum carburetor. Use fuel stabilizer if storing <30 days.
