Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all contents. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach guide bar and chain: Place bar onto mounting studs, loop chain around sprocket and bar, adjust tension.
  2. Fill oil reservoir: Use McCulloch bar and chain oil or equivalent.
  3. Mix fuel: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (minimum 89 octane) with 2-cycle oil at 50:1 ratio.
  4. Prime and choke: Press primer bulb 5-10 times, set choke to cold start position.

WARNING! Always wear appropriate safety gear: eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toed boots.

First-Time Operation

Before starting, ensure chain brake is engaged and area is clear.

  1. Starting procedure: Place on ground, hold front handle with left hand, step on rear handle, pull starter cord briskly.
  2. Warm-up: Allow engine to run at idle for 30-60 seconds before cutting.
  3. Chain lubrication check: Verify oil is being delivered to bar by holding saw over light-colored surface and running at moderate speed.
  4. Test chain brake: With engine at idle, engage brake to ensure proper function.

CAUTION! Never start chainsaw in enclosed area. Carbon monoxide poisoning can occur.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls: Throttle trigger, throttle trigger lockout, stop switch, choke control, primer bulb, chain brake lever.

Safety Features: Chain brake (inertia-activated), throttle trigger lockout, right-hand guard, chain catcher.

Maintenance points: Air filter cover, spark plug, chain tensioner, oil filler cap, fuel filler cap. Adjustments: Chain tension (tool-less), idle speed (requires screwdriver), oil flow rate (adjustment screw).

Fuel & Lubrication

Fuel mixture: Always use fresh unleaded gasoline (minimum 89 octane) mixed with high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at 50:1 ratio.

  1. Mix fuel in approved container before filling saw.
  2. Use McCulloch bar and chain oil or equivalent for lubrication.
  3. Check oil level before each use; refill when below half.
  4. Clean oil filter every 10 hours of operation.

Tip: Never use automotive motor oil or old gasoline. Stale fuel can cause starting problems and engine damage.

Cutting Techniques

Proper cutting techniques ensure safety and efficiency.

  1. Felling trees: Plan escape path, make notch cut, then back cut leaving hinge.
  2. Limbing: Work from trunk outward, keep saw on uphill side when on slope.
  3. Bucking: Support log properly, cut from top down, avoid cutting into ground.
  4. Pruning: Use light touch, let chain do the work, maintain secure footing.
  5. Kickback prevention: Keep saw properly sharpened, avoid tip contact, maintain firm grip.
  6. Cutting angle: Use full throttle when cutting, avoid pushing or forcing saw.

WARNING! Never cut above shoulder height. Always maintain secure footing and balance.

Safety Features

Chain Brake: Automatically activates during kickback; can also be manually engaged. Throttle Trigger Lockout: Must be depressed before throttle can be engaged. Right-Hand Guard: Protects hand from broken chain. Chain Catcher: Helps prevent broken chain from striking operator.

Maintenance & Storage

Daily maintenance: Clean air filter, check chain tension, inspect bar for wear, clean saw of debris.

Weekly maintenance: Sharpen chain, clean spark arrestor screen, check all fasteners for tightness.

Seasonal storage: Run carburetor dry, remove chain and bar for cleaning, store in dry location.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug before performing maintenance. Allow engine to cool completely.
