Safety Information

Always wear protective gear: safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.

  1. Clear work area of debris and bystanders.
  2. Inspect chainsaw before each use: chain sharpness, tension, and lubrication.
  3. Never operate with damaged or missing parts.
  4. Always hold with both hands; maintain secure footing.
  5. Shut off engine before adjusting or transporting.

WARNING! Kickback can occur without warning. Keep saw chain sharp and maintain proper tension. Never cut above shoulder height.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires attaching guide bar and chain, filling fluids.

  1. Attach guide bar: Loosen bar nuts, position bar over studs, align chain sprocket.
  2. Install chain: Place chain over bar sprocket, ensure cutting teeth face forward on top.
  3. Tension chain: Adjust tensioning screw until chain snaps back when pulled from bar.
  4. Tighten bar nuts: Secure while lifting bar tip upward.
  5. Fill fluids: Use fresh 2-stroke fuel mix (50:1) and bar & chain oil.

CAUTION! Use only McCulloch-approved bar and chain oil. Never use motor oil or recycled oil.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main components: Front handle with chain brake, rear handle with throttle trigger, choke control, stop switch, primer bulb, fuel and oil caps.

Controls: Throttle trigger lockout (must be depressed to engage throttle), choke lever (cold start), primer bulb (fuels carburetor), stop switch (O=Run, I=Stop).

Chain tensioning: Located on side cover; adjust with combination tool. Chain brake: Manual engagement via front handle guard. Oil pump: Automatic with manual override button for extra lubrication.

Starting & Operation

Starting procedure (cold engine):

  1. Place on flat, clear surface.
  2. Engage chain brake by pushing handle guard forward.
  3. Set choke lever to full choke position.
  4. Press primer bulb 5-6 times until fuel is visible.
  5. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires (1-3 pulls).
  6. Move choke to half position, pull until engine starts.
  7. Allow 30-second warm-up at idle before cutting.

Tip: Always engage chain brake when starting or carrying saw.

Chain Maintenance

Regular chain maintenance ensures optimal cutting and safety.

  1. Sharpening: Use round file (5/32") and file guide. Maintain 30° cutting angle.
  2. Tensioning: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely. Re-tension when warm.
  3. Lubrication: Check oil level before each use; adjust oil flow rate if needed.
  4. Inspection: Look for damaged cutters, loose rivets, or excessive wear.
  5. Rotation: Flip bar periodically for even wear.

WARNING! Always wear heavy gloves when handling chain. Ensure engine is off and cool.

Engine Maintenance

Air filter: Clean weekly (more often in dusty conditions). Fuel filter: Replace annually. Spark plug: Clean and gap to 0.025" (0.63 mm) every 25 hours.

Fuel Mix: 50:1 ratio (2.6 oz oil per 1 gallon gasoline). Use fresh fuel within 30 days.

Storage

For long-term storage (over 30 days):

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops.
  2. Remove spark plug, add 1 tsp oil through hole, pull starter 2-3 times, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Store in dry place, cover to prevent dust.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank; fuel deteriorates and can damage carburetor.
