Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before use. Wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear.
  2. Keep hands away from chain and cutting area.
  3. Ensure chain brake is functioning before each use.
  4. Do not operate in wet conditions or near flammable materials.
  5. Keep bystanders at a safe distance.

WARNING! Chainsaw kickback can cause serious injury. Always hold saw firmly with both hands. Never operate above shoulder height.

Assembly & Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble before first use.

  1. Install bar and chain: Place bar onto mounting studs, align chain on bar sprocket, adjust tension.
  2. Fill oil reservoir: Use only Makita bar and chain oil or equivalent.
  3. Install battery: Insert fully charged 18V LXT battery until it clicks.
  4. Check chain tension: Chain should move freely but not sag from bar.

CAUTION! Ensure chain is properly installed with cutting teeth facing forward. Tighten all fasteners securely.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main components: Front handle with trigger, rear handle, battery compartment, oil cap, chain tensioner, chain brake lever.

Controls: Trigger switch, lock-off button, chain brake lever, battery release button, oil level window.

Operation: Press lock-off button, then squeeze trigger to start chain. Release trigger to stop. Engage chain brake by pushing lever forward. Check oil level through window. Adjust chain tension via knob on side.

Operation Guide

Proper cutting techniques ensure safety and efficiency.

  1. Starting: Ensure chain brake is disengaged, insert battery, press lock-off and squeeze trigger.
  2. Basic Cutting: Let chain reach full speed before contacting wood. Use lower part of bar for cutting.
  3. Limbing: Cut branches from bottom to top, supporting limb when possible.
  4. Pruning: Make relief cuts for larger branches to prevent tearing.
  5. Stopping: Release trigger, engage chain brake, remove battery.

Tip: Do not force saw. Let chain do the work. Keep chain sharp for best performance.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures longevity and safe operation.

  1. After each use: Clean saw of wood chips and debris.
  2. Check chain tension: Adjust if loose (should snap back when pulled from bar).
  3. Inspect bar: Clean bar groove, check for wear or damage.
  4. Lubrication: Refill oil reservoir before each use. Check oil flow by holding saw over light surface and running briefly.
  5. Battery care: Store batteries in cool, dry place away from metal objects.

WARNING! Always remove battery before performing maintenance. Wear gloves when handling chain.

Chain Sharpening & Replacement

Sharp chain improves cutting performance and safety.

  1. Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (typically 5/32-inch). Maintain 30-degree angle. File each cutter evenly.
  2. Depth gauge: File depth gauges to proper height (0.025-inch below cutter).
  3. Replacement: When cutters are worn beyond repair, replace chain. Ensure new chain matches bar specifications.
  4. Bar maintenance: Flip bar periodically for even wear. Replace if groove is worn or damaged.

CAUTION! Use proper filing tools. Maintain consistent angle and pressure. Replace chain if damaged or excessively worn.

Battery & Charging

Use only Makita 18V LXT batteries and chargers.

WARNING! Do not charge damaged batteries. Do not expose batteries to water or fire.
