Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of bystanders, especially children. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Prevention: Hold saw firmly with both hands. Do not cut with tip of bar. Use reduced-kickback chain.
  4. Before Starting: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Ensure chain brake functions.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous. Failure to follow safety rules can result in serious injury or death. Never operate when tired or under the influence.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble bar and chain.

  1. Install Bar and Chain: Place chain on bar, align with sprocket, fit bar onto mounting studs, tighten nuts hand-tight.
  2. Tension Chain: Use tool-free tensioner knob; pull chain snug against bar underside, then tighten mounting nuts fully.
  3. Fill Oil Reservoir: Use John Deere bar and chain oil. Fill to MAX line.
  4. Install Battery: Insert fully charged 55V battery until it clicks.

CAUTION! Ensure chain is installed with cutting teeth facing forward on top of bar. Incorrect installation can cause dangerous operation.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main Controls: On/Off switch, Safety throttle lock, Trigger, Chain brake lever, Battery release button, Oiler adjustment dial.

Components: Front handle with guard, Rear handle, Spiked bumper (if equipped), Bar cover, Chain tensioner knob, Oil fill cap, Battery port.

Operation: Press safety lock and squeeze trigger to start. Release trigger to stop. Engage chain brake by pushing lever forward. Check oil level via sight window. Adjust oil flow with dial (MIN to MAX).

Operation

Starting and basic cutting techniques.

  1. Pre-Start Check: Verify chain tension, oil level, battery charge, and clear work area.
  2. Starting: Ensure chain brake is disengaged. Press safety lock and squeeze trigger.
  3. Basic Cutting: Let chain reach full speed before contacting wood. Use steady pressure; do not force.
  4. Kickback Awareness: Be aware of bar nose contact. Always hold saw firmly with both hands.
  5. Stopping: Release trigger. Engage chain brake when not actively cutting.

Tip: Plan your cut and escape path before starting. Cut at waist level or below when possible.

Chain Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Sharpening: Use round file and guide. Maintain 30-degree cutting angle. File all cutters evenly.
  2. Tensioning: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely. Re-tension when cool after initial use.
  3. Cleaning: Remove sawdust from bar grooves, oil ports, and sprocket area.
  4. Inspection: Check for damaged, cracked, or worn cutters, drive links, and bar rails. Replace if needed.
  5. Lubrication: Always use recommended bar and chain oil. Check flow by pointing bar at light surface; oil line should appear.

WARNING! Always disconnect battery before performing any maintenance. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling chain.

Battery & Charging

Use only John Deere 55V batteries and charger.

Charging: Insert battery into charger. LED indicates status (red=charging, green=full). Store batteries in cool, dry place. Do not expose to extreme temperatures. Battery fuel gauge shows remaining charge (3 LEDs = full, 1 LED = low).

CAUTION! Do not charge damaged batteries. Do not pierce or disassemble. Charge at room temperature.

Storage

Long-term storage guidelines.

  1. Clean saw thoroughly, removing all sawdust and resin.
  2. Remove battery and store separately at 30-50% charge.
  3. Drain oil reservoir or fill completely to prevent moisture.
  4. Loosen chain tension slightly.
  5. Store in dry, locked location out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Do not store with battery installed. Store chain saw in its case or cover to prevent dust accumulation.
