Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip where kickback occurs.
  4. Proper Handling: Hold saw firmly with both hands. Do not operate above shoulder height.
  5. Chain Brake Test: Test chain brake function before each use.

WARNING! Kickback can cause serious injury or death. Do not let the tip of the guide bar contact any object. Always engage the chain brake when not cutting.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires attaching the guide bar and chain, and filling the oil tank.

  1. Install the Guide Bar and Chain: Place bar onto mounting studs. Loop chain around bar with cutting teeth facing forward on top. Adjust tension.
  2. Fill Oil Tank: Use only John Deere Bar & Chain Oil or equivalent. Fill to level indicated in window.
  3. Install Battery: Insert fully charged 40V battery until it clicks into place.
  4. Check Chain Tension: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely by hand. Adjust using tensioning knob.

CAUTION! Ensure the chainsaw is powered off and the battery is removed during assembly. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling the chain.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before operation.

Main Controls: Trigger Switch (requires pressing lock-off button first), Lock-Off Button, Chain Brake Lever (Front Hand Guard), Battery Release Button, Oil Tank Cap, Chain Tensioning Knob.

Indicators: Battery Fuel Gauge (LEDs on battery), Oil Level Window.

Safety Features: Chain Brake, Chain Catcher, Right-Hand Guard, Low-Kickback Chain.

Operation

Starting and using the chainsaw correctly ensures safety and performance.

  1. Pre-Start Check: Verify chain tension, oil level, battery charge, and that area is clear.
  2. Starting: Place on firm ground. Press and hold lock-off button, then squeeze trigger. The chain will begin to move.
  3. Cutting: Let the chain reach full speed before contacting wood. Use a steady, controlled feed pressure. Do not force the saw.
  4. Stopping: Release trigger. Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward.
  5. Kickback Prevention: Maintain a firm grip. Do not cut with the tip. Be aware of wood tension and binding.

Tip: Plan your cut and escape path before starting. Never operate the chainsaw when fatigued.

Chain Maintenance

Proper chain care is essential for safe and efficient cutting.

  1. Sharpening: Use a round file and guide matching chain pitch. File each cutter at the recommended angle (typically 30°). Keep all cutters uniform length.
  2. Tensioning: Chain stretches when new and during use. Check tension frequently. Adjust via tensioning knob when saw is cool and chain is slack.
  3. Lubrication: Check oil level before each use. Refill as needed. Use proper bar and chain oil for all temperatures.
  4. Inspection: Regularly inspect chain for damaged, broken, or excessively worn cutters, tie straps, and drive links. Replace if damaged.

WARNING! Always remove the battery before performing any maintenance. A sharp chain is safer and requires less force to operate.

Battery & Charging

The 40V Lithium-Ion battery provides cordless power. Handle and charge with care.

CAUTION! Do not expose battery to fire, water, or extreme temperatures. Do not use a damaged battery or charger.

Storage

Proper storage extends the life of your chainsaw.

  1. Clean saw thoroughly, removing sawdust and debris.
  2. Remove battery and store separately.
  3. Drain the oil tank or fill completely to prevent moisture buildup.
  4. Loosen chain tension slightly.
  5. Store in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never store the chainsaw with the battery installed. Store chain oil and fuel (if applicable) in approved containers away from heat sources.
