Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, non-slip boots, and close-fitting clothing.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders, children, and pets at least 10m away. Ensure stable footing.
  3. Electrical Safety: Use a RCD-protected outlet. Inspect power cord before each use. Keep cord away from cutting area and sharp objects.
  4. Before Starting: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Ensure chain brake functions correctly.
  5. During Use: Hold with both hands. Do not overreach. Be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip).
  6. After Use: Unplug immediately. Allow to cool before storage.

WARNING! Kickback can cause severe injury. Never use with one hand. Do not operate above shoulder height or on a ladder.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly typically requires attaching the guide bar and chain, and filling the oil reservoir.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Loosen side cover nuts. Position chain on bar with cutting teeth facing forward in top guide. Place bar onto mounting studs. Ensure chain sits correctly on drive sprocket. Replace side cover and hand-tighten nuts.
  2. Tension Chain: Use the tool-free tensioning knob on the side. Adjust until chain is snug against the bar but can be pulled freely by hand. Retighten side cover nuts.
  3. Fill Oil Reservoir: Use only recommended bar and chain oil. Fill via oil cap until visible in the window. Replace cap securely.
  4. Power Cord: Fully unwind the power cord from the storage hooks. Plug into a suitable RCD-protected outdoor socket.

CAUTION! Always disconnect from power before assembly or maintenance.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before operation.

Main Components:

Operation Controls:

  1. Press the safety lock button (usually red) with your thumb.
  2. While holding the lock, squeeze the main trigger switch.
  3. Release the safety lock once the motor is running.

Operation Guide

Proper technique ensures safety and efficiency.

  1. Starting a Cut: Ensure the chain is not touching anything. Start the saw and let the chain reach full speed before contacting the wood.
  2. Basic Cutting: Use the bottom of the guide bar for cutting. Let the chain do the work; do not force it. Support the log securely off the ground.
  3. Kickback Prevention: Be especially cautious of the upper quadrant of the bar tip. Never cut with this part. Maintain a firm grip.
  4. Automatic Oiling: The oil pump operates when the motor runs. For heavy use, manually press the oil primer button (if equipped) before starting.
  5. Stopping: Release the trigger. The chain brake may engage automatically. Wait for the chain to stop completely before setting the saw down.
  6. After Use: Unplug the power cord. Engage the chain brake for storage.

Tip: Plan your cut and escape path before starting. Never cut alone.

Chain Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Chain Tension Check: Check frequently, especially when new. A correctly tensioned chain should snap back against the bar when pulled away and released.
  2. Chain Sharpening: Use a round file and file guide matching your chain's pitch. File all cutters to the same length at the recommended angle (typically 30°). Maintain consistent depth gauge height.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Regularly clean the bar groove. Flip the bar periodically for even wear.
  4. Lubrication: Always use proper bar and chain oil. Check oil level before each use. Ensure oil is flowing to the chain (look for oil spray on cut material).
  5. Chain Replacement: Replace chain when cutters are worn short, damaged, or after repeated sharpening. Replace bar if grooves are deeply worn or edges are damaged.

WARNING! Always disconnect from mains power before performing any maintenance.

Cleaning & Storage

Unplug and allow to cool completely. Clean sawdust and debris from the body, air vents, guide bar, and chain. Wipe with a dry cloth. Empty the oil reservoir for long-term storage. Store in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. Use a bar guard or scabbard.

CAUTION! Do not use compressed air or water for cleaning. Never store with fuel (if applicable) in the tank.

Warranty Information

JCB products are covered by a standard warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for a specified period from date of purchase (typically 1-2 years for domestic use). Warranty does not cover wear parts (chain, bar, sprocket), damage from misuse, neglect, improper maintenance, or commercial use. Retain your proof of purchase. For warranty claims, contact the retailer or JCB customer service.
