Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before use. Always wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  1. PPE Required: Safety helmet with face shield/hearing protection, chainsaw protective gloves, protective legwear (chaps), and sturdy boots with non-slip soles.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing. Never operate on a ladder or unstable surface.
  3. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the guide bar nose. Do not let this part contact wood or other objects.
  4. Chain Brake: Test inertia-activated chain brake before each use.

WARNING! Risk of severe injury or death from kickback, loss of control, or contact with moving chain. Never operate with one hand.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on drive sprocket cover. Fit chain over bar sprocket and onto drive sprocket, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top of bar. Adjust tension.
  2. Fill Fluids: Use fresh, high-quality 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio for Husqvarna XP+ oil). Fill chain oil tank with quality bar & chain oil.
  3. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, lockout, and chain brake move freely.
  4. Sharp Chain: Always start with a properly sharpened chain.

CAUTION! Fuel is highly flammable. Refuel outdoors with engine off and cooled. Wipe up spills immediately.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Right Side: Throttle trigger, throttle trigger lockout, front handle, chain brake handle, rear handle with anti-vibration.

Left Side: Combined choke/stop control (3 positions: Run, Choke, Stop), decompression valve (if equipped), air purge bulb (if equipped), fuel and oil tank caps.

Top/Back: Spark plug cover, starter handle, muffler, carrying ring.

Chain Brake: Can be activated manually (by hand) or automatically by inertia (kickback).

Starting & Operation

Follow cold or warm starting procedure.

  1. Cold Start: Engage chain brake. Set master control lever to choke position. Press fuel primer bulb 5-6 times (if equipped). Pull starter handle until engine fires. Move master control to run position. Pull starter handle to start. Disengage chain brake.
  2. Warm Start: Master control in run position. Pull starter handle.
  3. Cutting Technique: Use full throttle when cutting. Let chain do the work; do not force. Be aware of pinch points, especially when cutting logs under tension.
  4. Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle. Move master control lever to STOP position.

Tip: Always hold saw firmly with both hands, right hand on rear handle, left hand on front handle, thumbs wrapped around handles.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures performance, longevity, and safety.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck chain tension, sharpness, and brake function. Check for loose nuts/bolts. Inspect for damage.
DailyClean air filter. Check fuel and oil lines for leaks. Clean exterior and cooling fins.
Weekly (or 5-10 hrs)Clean spark arrestor screen in muffler. Check spark plug condition/gap.
Monthly (or 20 hrs)Clean fuel filter in tank. Replace air filter if very dirty.
Seasonally/AnnuallyClean carburetor air intake. Check/replace fuel filter. Have cylinder/piston condition checked by dealer if used heavily.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

A sharp, properly tensioned chain is critical for safety and performance.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts with combination wrench. Use scrench tool to adjust tensioning screw until chain fits snug against bar but can be pulled around by hand. Retighten bar nuts while lifting bar tip up.
  2. Sharpening: Use correct round file size for your chain (typically 4.0mm or 4.8mm). Maintain factory filing angle (usually 30°). File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges (rakers) with a flat file and gauge.

WARNING! Always wear heavy gloves when handling chain. Stop engine and ensure chain is stopped before tensioning or sharpening.

Storage Guidelines

Prepare saw for storage if not used for more than 30 days.

  1. Drain all fuel from tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder, pull starter cord slowly to distribute oil, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean entire saw thoroughly. Remove chain and bar, clean and oil them, store separately.
  4. Store in a dry, clean, and secure place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Storing with fuel in the tank can cause gum deposits in the carburetor.
