Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, sturdy boots, and chainsaw chaps or pants.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Before Starting: Check chain tension and sharpness. Ensure battery is properly inserted and charged. Verify chain brake functions.
  4. During Operation: Hold saw firmly with both hands. Do not operate above shoulder height. Beware of kickback.
  5. After Use: Engage chain brake. Remove battery. Clean saw and store in a dry, locked place.

WARNING! Kickback can occur without warning and cause severe injury. Avoid contact with the guide bar nose. Always use the chain brake.

Assembly & First Use

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble before first use.

  1. Attach the Guide Bar and Chain: Place the bar onto the studs. Loop the chain around the bar, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top. Fit the chain onto the drive sprocket and bar nose. Replace the side cover and hand-tighten the nuts.
  2. Tension the Chain: Use the tool-less tensioning wheel on the side. Lift the bar tip up and turn the wheel until the chain is snug against the bar but can still be pulled around by hand. Tighten the side cover nuts firmly.
  3. Fill the Oil Tank: Use only Husqvarna chain oil or a high-quality biodegradable bar & chain oil. Fill to the mark.
  4. Insert the Battery: Slide the charged battery into the battery compartment until it clicks.
  5. Initial Test: In a safe area, press the lock-off button, then squeeze the trigger to ensure smooth operation. Check oil flow by holding the tip over a piece of cardboard and running the saw briefly.

CAUTION! Ensure the chain is correctly installed and tensioned before operation to prevent derailment or injury.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before operation.

Main Components: Front Handle: Includes front hand guard and chain brake trigger. Rear Handle: Contains the trigger, lock-off button, and battery release. Body: Houses the motor, oil tank, and tensioner. Battery Compartment: Located at the rear.

Controls: Trigger: Squeeze to start the chain. Release to stop. Lock-off Button (Safety Trigger): Must be pressed before the trigger can be squeezed. Chain Brake/Front Hand Guard: If pushed forward manually or activated by inertia, it stops the chain. Battery Release Buttons: Press both sides to remove the battery. Chain Tensioning Wheel: Tool-less adjustment on the side. Oil Pump Manual Override Button: For extra oiling before a cut.

Operation

Follow these steps for safe and effective cutting.

  1. Pre-Start Check: Verify chain tension, sharpness, and oil level. Ensure work area is clear.
  2. Starting: Insert battery. Place saw on firm ground. Press the lock-off button with your right thumb, then squeeze the trigger with your fingers.
  3. Making a Cut: Let the chain reach full speed before contacting wood. Use the bumper spike to pivot into the wood. Apply light feed pressure; let the saw do the work.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Do not cut with the nose of the bar. Be aware of wood tension and binding. Always hold saw firmly with both hands.
  5. Stopping: Release the trigger. The chain will stop. Engage the chain brake by pushing the front hand guard forward for added safety.

Tip: For longer battery life, use a sharp chain and avoid forcing the saw through the cut.

Chain Maintenance

A sharp and well-tensioned chain is crucial for safety and performance.

  1. Sharpening: Use a 4.0 mm (5/32") round file and a file guide. Maintain the original 30° filing angle. File all cutters to the same length. File depth gauges with a flat file when necessary.
  2. Tensioning: Chain should be tensioned when cold. Lift the bar tip and adjust the side wheel until the chain is snug. It should snap back when pulled from the bar. Re-tension after the first few minutes of use as the chain warms up.
  3. Replacing the Chain: When cutters are worn down or damaged. Ensure new chain matches specifications (3/8" LP, 52 drive links). Follow assembly instructions.
  4. Lubrication: Always run the saw with oil in the tank. Check oil flow regularly. Use the manual override button for extra lubrication in dry or hard wood.

WARNING! Always wear heavy-duty gloves when handling the chain. Ensure the saw is off and the battery is removed.

Battery & Charging

Use only Husqvarna 40V BLi series batteries and QC80 charger.

  1. Charging: Plug charger into outlet. Insert battery. Charger light will be red during charging, green when complete. Do not charge below 0°C (32°F) or above 40°C (104°F).
  2. Battery Care: Store batteries at room temperature (approx. 20°C / 68°F). For long-term storage (>30 days), store at 30-50% charge. Do not expose to water or fire.
  3. Runtime: Varies based on wood type, chain sharpness, and cutting technique. A fully charged BLi40 typically provides 30-60 minutes of intermittent cutting.

CAUTION! Do not use damaged batteries. Do not short-circuit terminals.

Cleaning & Storage

Unplug charger and remove battery before cleaning.

  1. Cleaning: Use a brush or dry cloth to remove sawdust and dirt from the body, air intake, and cooling fins. Clean the guide bar groove. Wipe the chain with an oily rag.
  2. Storage: Store the saw and battery in a dry, frost-free, and locked location, out of reach of children. Engage the chain brake. Empty the oil tank if storing for more than a few months.

CAUTION! Do not use water or solvents for cleaning. Never store the battery fully discharged.
