Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear chainsaw chaps, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of bystanders, especially children. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Awareness: Understand kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar nose). Use reduced-kickback chain and maintain proper chain tension and sharpness.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Use fuel mix (50:1 gasoline to 2-stroke oil).
  5. Carrying & Transport: Engage chain brake and fit scabbard over guide bar.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate a chainsaw while fatigued or under the influence.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach guide bar: Remove bar cover nuts, position bar over studs, ensure chain tensioning pin engages in bar hole.
  2. Install chain: Place chain over sprocket and onto bar, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  3. Adjust chain tension: Tighten bar nuts hand-tight, use side tensioner to achieve proper tension (chain should snap back when pulled from bar). Fully tighten bar nuts.
  4. Fill fluids: Add Husqvarna 2-stroke oil to fuel at 50:1 ratio. Fill chain oil tank with bar and chain oil.

CAUTION! Always wear protective gloves when handling the chain. Ensure chain is correctly installed (drive links seated in bar groove).

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Main Controls: On/Off switch, Choke/Stop control, Throttle trigger, Throttle trigger lockout, Chain brake lever/hand guard, Decompression valve, Primer bulb (if equipped).

Components: Front handle, Rear handle, Fuel cap, Oil cap, Spark plug, Air filter cover, Muffler, Guide bar, Chain, Chain catcher, Right-hand guard.

Chain Brake: Can be engaged manually (push hand guard forward) or automatically (inertia-activated during kickback). Test before each use.

Starting & Stopping

Cold Start:

  1. Place saw on firm ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set choke control to full choke position.
  4. Press primer bulb 6-10 times until fuel is visible.
  5. Pull starter handle until engine fires (approx. 2-5 pulls).
  6. Move choke control to half-throttle position.
  7. Pull starter handle again until engine starts. Let run briefly.
  8. Disengage chain brake. Squeeze throttle trigger to return to idle.

Warm Start: Do not use choke. Follow steps from half-throttle position.

Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle. Move On/Off switch to STOP (0) position.

Operating Instructions

Proper technique is critical for safety and efficiency.

  1. Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, left foot slightly forward. Hold saw firmly with both hands.
  2. Basic Cuts:
    • Felling: Plan escape path. Make notch cut and felling cut. Use wedges if needed.
    • Limbing: Work from trunk outward. Keep saw close to you, use bar as a lever.
    • Bucking: Support log properly. Cut from top, avoid contacting ground.
  3. Kickback Prevention: Do not cut with bar nose. Maintain firm grip. Keep chain sharp and tensioned.
  4. Chain Lubrication: Check oil flow by pointing bar at light surface and running at full throttle; oil line should appear.

WARNING! Never operate chainsaw above shoulder height or with one hand. Be aware of pinch points and binding.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Check all controls and safety devices. Clean air filter. Inspect for loose parts or damage.
Weekly / 5 HoursClean cooling fins. Check spark plug condition. Clean exterior of saw.
Monthly / 20 HoursReplace spark plug. Clean fuel filter. Check fuel lines for cracks.
Seasonally / 50 HoursClean cylinder and muffler. Check clutch and sprocket. Replace air filter if heavily soiled.
Annually / 100 HoursProfessional inspection recommended. Check anti-vibration elements.

Note: Maintenance intervals vary with operating conditions. Increase frequency in dusty environments.

Chain & Bar Care

  1. Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 5/32" or 3/16"). Maintain 30° filing angle. File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges with gauge tool.
  2. Tensioning: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely. Re-tension when warm. Overtightening causes excessive wear.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly. Flip bar weekly for even wear. Dress bar rails with flat file if burred.
  4. Lubrication: Always use high-quality bar and chain oil. Adjust oil flow for conditions (higher flow in cold/dusty conditions).

CAUTION! A dull or poorly tensioned chain increases kickback risk and operator fatigue.

Storage

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Empty fuel tank or add fuel stabilizer. Run engine for 2 minutes to circulate treated fuel.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil. Clean bar and coat with oil.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter area.
  4. Store in dry, cool place, protected from dust and moisture. Use scabbard over bar.
  5. For long-term storage (over 30 days), remove spark plug and add a teaspoon of oil into cylinder. Pull starter cord slowly to distribute oil, then reinstall plug.
