Safety Instructions

Read and understand all safety warnings before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps/pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work area safety: Clear area of bystanders, especially children. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Fuel safety: Refuel outdoors only when engine is cool. Use approved fuel container.
  4. Kickback awareness: Be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip). Use reduced-kickback chain.
  5. Chain brake: Check function before each use. Understand how to activate manually.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous tools. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach guide bar: Remove bar cover nuts, position bar over studs, align chain with sprocket.
  2. Install chain: Place chain over bar with cutting teeth facing forward on top. Ensure proper direction.
  3. Tension chain: Adjust side tensioner until chain fits snugly against bar but can be pulled by hand.
  4. Add fuel: Mix high-quality 2-stroke oil with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio for Husqvarna XP+ oil).
  5. Add bar & chain oil: Fill oil tank with special chainsaw bar oil (not used motor oil).

CAUTION! Always wear protective gloves when handling chain. Ensure chain brake is disengaged during assembly.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls: Front hand guard/chain brake, throttle trigger, throttle trigger lockout, choke/stop control, start/stop switch.

Right side: Chain tensioner, oil filler cap, fuel filler cap, air filter cover, spark plug cover.

Chain brake: Activated manually by pushing forward or automatically by inertia during kickback. Throttle lockout: Must be depressed before throttle can be engaged. Choke/stop control: Three positions - Run (horizontal), Choke (fully up), Stop (fully down).

Starting & Stopping

Cold start procedure (engine not warm):

  1. Place chainsaw on flat ground, clear of debris.
  2. Activate chain brake by pushing hand guard forward.
  3. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  4. Set choke/stop control to choke position (fully up).
  5. Press throttle trigger lockout and squeeze throttle once to set fast idle.
  6. Pull starter handle until engine fires (usually 2-3 pulls).
  7. Move choke/stop control to run position (horizontal).
  8. Pull starter handle until engine starts.
  9. Blip throttle to disengage fast idle.

Warm start: Skip choke step. Use run position only.

Stopping: Release throttle, move choke/stop control to stop position (fully down).

Operating Instructions

Basic cutting techniques for safe operation.

  1. Firm grip: Hold front handle with left hand, rear handle with right hand. Thumbs wrapped underneath.
  2. Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, left foot slightly forward.
  3. Starting cut: Let chain reach full speed before contacting wood.
  4. Buck cutting (felled trees): Support log properly. Cut from top side when possible.
  5. Limbing: Work from trunk outward. Beware of spring-loaded branches.
  6. Kickback prevention: Never cut with bar tip. Be aware of pinch points.
  7. Chain lubrication: Check oil flow by pointing bar at light surface; should see oil line.

Tip: Let the chain do the work; don't force the saw. Maintain proper chain tension.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Daily: Clean air filter, check chain tension, sharpen chain, clean saw exterior.
  2. Weekly: Check spark plug, clean cooling fins, inspect bar for wear.
  3. Monthly: Clean fuel filter, check all nuts and bolts for tightness.
  4. Seasonally: Replace spark plug, clean carburetor air passage, inspect anti-vibration elements.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance. Allow engine to cool completely.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

Proper chain maintenance is critical for performance and safety.

  1. Chain tensioning: Loosen bar nuts, adjust tensioner screw until chain fits snugly against bar but can be pulled by hand. Retighten bar nuts.
  2. Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (usually 4.0mm). Maintain 30° filing angle. File all cutters to equal length.
  3. Depth gauge setting: Use depth gauge tool to maintain proper height (0.025" or 0.65mm).
  4. Bar maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly. Flip bar monthly for even wear.

WARNING! A dull chain requires more force, increasing kickback risk and user fatigue.

Storage

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Short-term (under 30 days): Fill fuel tank to prevent condensation.
  2. Long-term: Drain fuel tank completely. Run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  3. Remove chain: Clean and soak in oil. Store separately.
  4. Clean entire saw: Remove sawdust, dirt, and resin.
  5. Store: In dry place, protected from moisture and dust. Cover but allow ventilation.

CAUTION! Never store chainsaw with fuel in tank for extended periods. Modern ethanol-blended fuels degrade quickly.
