Safety Information

Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and sturdy boots.

  1. Before Starting: Check chain brake function, chain tension, and sharpness. Ensure all guards are in place.
  2. During Operation: Maintain secure footing. Hold saw firmly with both hands. Be aware of kickback zone.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area with engine stopped and cool. Use fuel mix (50:1 Husqvarna XP+ oil with 90+ octane gasoline).
  4. Maintenance Safety: Disconnect spark plug boot before performing any service. Use only Husqvarna recommended parts.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious personal injury or death. The chain brake is not a substitute for safe operating practices.

Technical Specifications

Maintenance Schedule

Access components as described. Daily/Pre-use checks are mandatory.

Daily/Before Use: Check chain tension and sharpness, test chain brake, check all nuts/bolts for tightness, clean air filter, check fuel/oil levels.

Every 10 Hours: Clean spark arrestor screen (if equipped), clean cooling fins, check spark plug condition.

Every 20 Hours: Clean carburetor air filter more thoroughly, check fuel filter, inspect clutch and sprocket.

Every 100 Hours/Seasonally: Replace fuel filter, clean/replace air filter, check/replace spark plug, clean cylinder and exhaust port, inspect anti-vibration elements.

Engine Service

Cylinder & Piston: Inspect for scoring. Replace if wear exceeds limits. Crankshaft Seals: Check for leaks causing lean run condition. Muffler: Clean regularly to prevent carbon buildup and overheating.

  1. Remove top cover, air filter cover, and air filter.
  2. Remove muffler and spark plug.
  3. Inspect piston through exhaust port. Use a bore scope through spark plug hole for full view.
  4. Measure piston ring end gap (service limit: 0.8 mm).

Torque Specs: Cylinder bolts: 10 Nm (7.4 ft-lb). Spark plug: 25 Nm (18.4 ft-lb).

Fuel System

Carburetor Adjustment (H, L, T screws): Use tachometer. Initial settings: L=1 turn open, H=1 turn open from lightly seated. Final tuning must be at operating temperature.

  1. Clean fuel tank, replace fuel filter (part # 501 87 65-01).
  2. Check fuel lines for cracks and stiffness. Replace if necessary.
  3. Check carburetor diaphragm and gaskets for deterioration.
  4. Adjust idle speed (T screw) to 2700 RPM ± 150 RPM.

Tip: Always use fresh, properly mixed fuel. Stale fuel is a primary cause of starting and running issues.

Cutting Equipment

Chain: Sharpen regularly with correct file size (4.0 mm round file for 3/8" LP). Maintain correct depth gauge setting. Guide Bar: Clean groove weekly, flip weekly for even wear. Sprocket: Replace if worn (clutch drum sprocket).

  1. Tension Chain: Loosen bar nuts, adjust tensioning screw until chain fits snugly against bar, retighten nuts.
  2. Sharpening: File at 30° angle, maintain equal strokes per cutter. Check depth gauges with gauge tool.
  3. Clutch Inspection: Remove clutch (left-hand thread) using special tool. Check for worn shoes or springs.

WARNING! Always stop engine before adjusting or servicing cutting equipment. Use gloves when handling chain.

Ignition System

Spark Plug: Clean with wire brush, check gap. Ignition Module (SEM): Check air gap (0.25-0.30 mm) between flywheel and module legs. Stop Switch: Test for continuity. Wiring: Inspect for damage, especially near handles and throttle linkage.

Cooling & Air Filtration

Air Filter: Clean with warm soapy water, dry completely. Do not oil foam filter. Cooling Fins: Clean debris from cylinder fins and fan housing. Flywheel Fan: Check for damage. Ensure carburetor heat insulation gasket is intact.

CAUTION! Never run the saw without the air filter or with a damaged filter. This will cause rapid engine wear.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Engine will not startNo spark, flooded, fuel issueCheck spark, plug condition. Dry plug, pull with throttle open. Check fuel filter, lines, and carburetor.
Engine starts then diesClogged fuel filter, carb adjustment, air leakReplace fuel filter. Check L screw setting. Perform pressure/vacuum test on crankcase.
Lacks power under loadClogged air filter, muffler, carb H setting, worn pistonClean air filter and muffler. Check H screw adjustment. Inspect piston/cylinder.
Chain does not stop when brake is appliedWorn brake band, contaminated mechanismInspect brake band for wear. Clean clutch area of oil and debris.
Excessive vibrationUnbalanced cutting equipment, worn AV mountsCheck chain balance and sharpness. Inspect and replace anti-vibration buffers.

Reset: For electronic ignition, ensure correct air gap. No user-resettable ECU.
