Safety Instructions

Read and understand all safety warnings before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear chainsaw protective pants, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and helmet with face shield.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear work area of obstacles; ensure secure footing; keep bystanders at safe distance.
  3. Kickback Awareness: Be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip); never cut with this area.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors only when engine is cool; use proper fuel/oil mixture.
  5. Transport: Always engage chain brake and fit scabbard when carrying.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous tools. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble before first use.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on mounting studs; fit chain with drive links in bar groove; tension properly.
  2. Fill Fuel: Mix high-quality 2-stroke oil with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio for Husqvarna XP® oil).
  3. Fill Chain Oil: Use proper chain oil in separate tank.
  4. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and chain brake function correctly.

CAUTION! Use only Husqvarna recommended oils and fuels. Incorrect mixture can damage engine.

Technical Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls located on top and rear handle.

Right Side: Throttle trigger, Throttle lockout, Chain brake handle, Stop switch.

Left Side: Choke control, Decompression valve (if equipped), Air purge bulb, Fuel primer.

Top/Other: Front hand guard, Chain catcher, Spark arrestor muffler, Side-mounted chain tensioner, Combined choke/stop control, Oil filler cap, Fuel filler cap.

Starting & Stopping

Cold Start:

  1. Engage chain brake by pushing forward.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set choke control to full choke position.
  4. Press fuel primer 4-6 times until fuel is visible.
  5. Place on ground, hold rear handle with right foot, pull starter handle until engine fires.
  6. Move choke to half-throttle position, pull until engine starts.
  7. Blip throttle to disengage fast idle.

Warm Start: Use half-choke or no choke position.

Stopping: Release throttle, press stop switch.

Operating Instructions

Proper cutting techniques for safety and efficiency.

  1. Grip: Hold firmly with both hands, right hand on rear handle, left on front.
  2. Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, left foot slightly forward.
  3. Starting Cut: Apply slight pressure to saw; let chain do the work.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Never cut with upper quadrant of bar tip; be aware of pinch points.
  5. Felling: Use proper techniques (notch, hinge, back cut); have escape path planned.
  6. Limbing: Work from trunk outward; be aware of spring-loaded branches.
  7. Buckling: Support log properly; cut from top down; avoid ground contact.

Tip: Keep chain sharp and properly tensioned for best performance.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalMaintenance Task
DailyCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication; clean air filter; inspect guide bar
WeeklyClean spark arrestor screen; check all nuts and bolts; clean cooling fins
MonthlyReplace spark plug; clean fuel filter; check anti-vibration elements
SeasonallyReplace air filter; clean carburetor; check starter mechanism
AnnuallyProfessional servicing; compression test; fuel system overhaul

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug before performing maintenance.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper chain maintenance ensures performance and safety.

  1. Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (typically 5.5mm). Maintain 30° cutting angle, 10° top plate angle.
  2. Tensioning: Chain should snap back when pulled from bar; adjust when cold.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly; flip bar monthly for even wear.
  4. Lubrication: Ensure oil port is clear; adjust oil flow for conditions.
  5. Depth Gauges: File to 0.025" (0.65mm) below cutter for proper performance.

WARNING! Always wear gloves when handling chain.

Storage Guidelines

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues.

  1. Empty fuel tank or add fuel stabilizer.
  2. Run engine until carburetor is dry.
  3. Remove chain, clean and oil it.
  4. Clean entire saw thoroughly.
  5. Store in dry, cool place with scabbard on bar.
  6. For long-term storage: Remove spark plug, add teaspoon of oil to cylinder, pull starter slowly to distribute.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days without stabilizer.
