Safety Information

Critical safety warnings and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Always wear chainsaw protective trousers, safety boots, gloves, eye protection (goggles/visor), and hearing protection.
  2. Before Starting: Check chain tension, chain brake function, throttle trigger lockout, and ensure all guards are in place.
  3. During Operation: Maintain secure footing, keep bystanders at a safe distance, never operate above shoulder height, and be aware of kickback zone.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in a well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Use fuel mix (50:1 Husqvarna XP+ oil with 90+ octane gasoline).
  5. Transport & Storage: Engage chain brake when carrying. Store chainsaw in a dry place, empty fuel tank for long-term storage.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. The chain brake is not a substitute for safe operating practices.

Maintenance Schedule

Routine maintenance tasks and intervals to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

TaskBefore Each UseWeekly / 5 HoursMonthly / 20 HoursYearly / 100 Hours
Check chain tension
Check chain sharpness
Clean air filter
Clean cooling fins
Check spark plug
Clean spark arrestor screen
Replace fuel filter
Check/replace bar & chainInspectReplace if worn
Check clutch & sprocketInspect
Check all nuts & bolts

Note: Intervals may vary based on operating conditions. More frequent maintenance is required in dusty or demanding environments.

Engine Service

Procedures for cylinder, piston, crankshaft, and bearing service.

  1. Cylinder & Piston Inspection: Remove muffler to inspect piston and cylinder for scoring. Measure piston clearance (spec: 0.05-0.07 mm).
  2. Decompression Valve: Test by pressing; should spring back. Replace if leaking or stuck.
  3. Crankcase Seals: Check for leaks (air/fuel). Replace seals if engine runs lean or has starting issues.
  4. Bearings: Check main bearings for play or roughness. Replace if defective.
  5. Compression Test: Should be above 120 psi (8.3 bar) for good starting.

Tools Required: Torx screwdrivers, piston stop, flywheel puller, bearing puller, torque wrench, feeler gauges.

Fuel System

Servicing the fuel tank, lines, filter, and pump.

  1. Fuel Filter Replacement: Drain tank, remove filter through filler neck using a wire hook. Install new filter.
  2. Fuel Lines: Inspect for cracks or brittleness. Replace lines if leaking. Note routing diagram.
  3. Fuel Tank Vent: Check vent valve (in cap) is not clogged. Clean with compressed air.
  4. Fuel Pump (if equipped): Diaphragm pump on carburetor. Check diaphragm for tears or stiffness.

Fuel Mix: Use 50:1 ratio with Husqvarna XP+ 2-stroke oil. Do not use automotive oil or old gasoline.

Ignition System

Testing and replacing ignition components.

ComponentTest ProcedureSpecification / Result
Spark PlugVisual inspection, gap checkGap: 0.5 mm (0.020"). Replace if electrode worn or insulator cracked.
Ignition Coil (Module)Resistance test (primary/secondary)Primary: 0.2-0.4 Ω; Secondary: 8-12 kΩ. Replace if out of spec or no spark.
Stop SwitchContinuity testOpen circuit when off; closed circuit when on. Replace if faulty.
Flywheel & MagnetsVisual inspection, puller removalCheck for cracks, clean magnets. Torque nut: 40 Nm (30 ft-lb).

Note: Always disconnect spark plug wire before servicing ignition system.

Cutting Equipment

Guide bar, chain, sprocket, and clutch maintenance.

  1. Chain Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts, adjust tensioning screw until chain snaps back when pulled from bar. Tighten nuts (torque: 9-10 Nm).
  2. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove, flip bar weekly for even wear. File down burrs on rails.
  3. Sprocket Inspection: Check drive sprocket (rim or spur) for wear. Replace if teeth are hooked or worn unevenly.
  4. Clutch & Drum: Inspect clutch springs for fatigue. Clean drum bearing. Replace if grooves are deep.
  5. Chain Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 4.0 mm or 5/32"). Maintain 30° top plate angle, 10° tilt angle.

WARNING! Always wear gloves when handling chain. A sharp chain reduces kickback risk and improves cutting efficiency.

Carburetor Adjustment

Adjusting H, L, and T screws on Zama or Walbro carburetor.

  1. Initial Settings: Turn H and L screws gently clockwise until seated, then back out: L - 1 turn, H - 1 turn.
  2. Idle Adjustment (T): Start engine, warm up. Adjust T screw to achieve steady idle (2700 RPM) without chain rotation.
  3. Low Speed (L): Adjust for smooth acceleration from idle. If hesitant, enrich (counter-clockwise). If smoky, lean (clockwise) in 1/8 turn increments.
  4. High Speed (H): Under load (cutting), adjust for maximum power without 4-stroking (lean) or excessive 4-stroking (rich). Use tachometer if possible (max 9600 RPM no-load).
  5. Final Check: Chain must not rotate at idle. Engine should accelerate smoothly and return to idle quickly.

CAUTION! Incorrect adjustment can cause engine damage. H screw affects engine temperature and power. If unsure, consult a professional.
