Safety Instructions

Read and understand all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear chainsaw chaps or pants, safety helmet with face shield and hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves, and steel-toe boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 meters away. Ensure secure footing. Never operate in poor light, bad weather, or when fatigued.
  3. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip. Avoid contact with this area during cutting.
  4. Chain Brake: Test function before each use. Engage when carrying the saw more than a few steps or when not in immediate use.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. This saw is for professional use only.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on studs. Loop chain over sprocket and onto bar groove with cutters facing forward on top. Install bar nut and adjust tension.
  2. Fill Fluids: Use high-quality 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline (50:1 ratio for Husqvarna XP oil). Fill chain oil tank with proper bar and chain oil.
  3. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and chain brake function correctly.
  4. Initial Chain Tension: Adjust so chain snaps back when pulled from bar. Re-tension after a few minutes of initial use.

CAUTION! Use only recommended fuels and lubricants. Improper mix can cause engine damage.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Right Side: Throttle trigger, throttle lockout, front hand guard/inertia brake, choke/stop control, primer bulb (if equipped).

Left Side: Combined choke/stop control, decompression valve (if equipped), chain tensioner, oil filler cap.

Rear: Rear handle with master control lever, fuel filler cap, starter handle.

Master Control Lever: Controls stop switch (I=Run, 0=Stop) and choke (full outward position).

Starting & Stopping

Cold Start:

  1. Engage chain brake. Place saw on firm ground.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Set master control lever to choke position (full out).
  4. Press primer bulb 4-6 times (if equipped).
  5. Pull starter cord until engine fires (approx. 2-4 pulls).
  6. Set master control lever to run position (I).
  7. Pull starter cord to start. Let idle for 10-15 seconds.
  8. Disengage chain brake by pulling hand guard towards you.

Warm Start: Use run position (I) only. Do not use choke.

Stopping: Release throttle, let engine idle briefly, set master control lever to stop (0).

Operating Instructions

Proper technique is critical for safety and efficiency.

  1. Grip: Hold saw firmly with both hands, right on rear handle, left on front handle. Thumb wrapped under front handle.
  2. Stance: Maintain secure footing with weight evenly distributed.
  3. Starting a Cut: Apply full throttle before bar touches wood. Let the saw do the work; avoid forcing.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Do not cut with the upper tip. Be aware of tension in wood. Always use a sharp chain.
  5. Bucking & Limbing: Plan cuts. For bucking, support log properly. Cut from top side when limbing.

WARNING! Never operate above shoulder height. Never use with one hand except in specific climbing situations where you are secured by a climbing system.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalTask
Daily / Before UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and brake function. Check fluid levels. Clean air filter. Inspect for loose parts or damage.
WeeklyClean cooling fins. Check spark plug condition. Clean fuel filter (in tank). Clean exterior of saw.
Monthly / 20 hrsReplace air filter. Check spark arrester screen (clean/replace). Check all nuts and bolts for tightness.
Seasonally / 100 hrsReplace fuel filter. Clean carburetor air intake. Check anti-vibration elements. Have dealer check ignition setting and compression.
AnnuallyReplace spark plug. Clean cylinder and exhaust port (dealer service). Full professional inspection recommended.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper care extends life and improves safety.

  1. Sharpening: Use correct round file and gauge. Maintain correct filing angle (typically 30°). File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges (rakers) with flat file and gauge.
  2. Chain Tension: Check when cold and frequently when new. Chain should snap back when pulled from bar. A loose chain can derail; a tight chain can break.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove regularly. Flip bar each time chain is sharpened to ensure even wear. Dress bar rails with a flat file if burred.
  4. Oiling: Ensure oiler is working. Adjust flow rate for conditions (higher in dusty/dry wood). Always use proper bar and chain oil.

CAUTION! A dull chain is dangerous and causes excessive wear. Stop and sharpen regularly.

Storage

Prepare saw for storage if not used for more than 30 days.

  1. Empty fuel tank and run carburetor dry.
  2. Remove chain and bar. Clean and oil them. Store separately.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter area.
  4. Store in a dry, clean place, protected from dust and moisture.
  5. For long-term storage, remove spark plug and add a teaspoon of engine oil into cylinder. Pull starter cord slowly to distribute oil, then reinstall plug.
