Safety Information

Read all instructions before operation. Always wear proper PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toe boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of obstacles and bystanders. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Prevention: Hold saw firmly with both hands. Do not cut with tip of bar.
  4. Chain Brake: Test before each use. Understand inertia activation.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous. Failure to follow safety rules may result in serious injury or death. Keep hands away from chain. Never operate when tired or under influence.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on mounting studs. Loop chain over sprocket and onto bar groove. Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  2. Install Bar Nut & Cover: Place clutch cover over studs. Hand-tighten nuts, then use tool to secure.
  3. Tension Chain: Use tool-less adjuster to raise bar tip and tighten chain. Chain should snap back when pulled from bar.
  4. Fill Fluids: Add 2-stroke engine oil/gas mix (50:1 ratio) to fuel tank. Fill chain oil reservoir with bar & chain oil.

CAUTION! Use only recommended oil mixtures. Improper fuel can damage engine.

Controls and Components

Main Controls: Front Handle with throttle trigger and lockout. Rear Handle with start/stop switch. Side Panel: Chain brake lever, decompression valve, choke control.

Key Components: Throttle Trigger, Throttle Lockout (safety), Stop Switch, Choke Lever, Decompression Valve, Chain Brake Lever, Chain Tensioner, Fuel Cap, Oil Cap, Primer Bulb, Air Filter Cover.

Operation: Squeeze throttle lockout and trigger to engage. Push chain brake forward to activate safety stop. Pull decompression valve before starting cold engine.

Starting & Operation

Starting Procedure (Cold Engine):

  1. Place saw on flat ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Move choke lever to FULL position.
  4. Press primer bulb 5-6 times until fuel is visible.
  5. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires (1-3 pulls).
  6. Move choke to HALF position. Pull starter until engine runs.
  7. Allow to warm up 30 seconds. Squeeze throttle to disengage choke.

Cutting Techniques: Use full throttle when cutting. Let chain do the work. Plan escape path. Beware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip).

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Daily maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Chain Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch. Maintain 30° cutting angle. File all cutters evenly.
  2. Chain Tension: Check frequently when hot. Adjust so chain snaps back when pulled from bar.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove. Flip bar weekly for even wear. Check for wear and straightness.
  4. Oiler Check: Verify oil flow by pointing bar tip at light surface and running at full throttle (oil line should appear).

WARNING! Always stop engine and wear gloves when handling chain. Chain is extremely sharp.

Engine Maintenance

Regular maintenance schedule:

CAUTION! Allow engine to cool before maintenance. Use only Homelite-approved parts.

Storage

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues.

  1. Short-term (under 30 days): Add fuel stabilizer to tank and run for 2 minutes.
  2. Long-term: Drain fuel tank and carburetor. Run engine until it stops. Remove spark plug and add 1 teaspoon of oil through spark plug hole. Pull starter slowly 2-3 times to distribute oil.
  3. Clean entire saw. Loosen chain tension. Store in dry, cool place away from ignition sources.

CAUTION! Gasoline is flammable. Store fuel in approved container away from living areas.
