Safety Information

Read all instructions before use. Always wear protective gear.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and chainsaw chaps.
  2. Clear Work Area: Ensure no bystanders, especially children or pets, within 15 feet.
  3. Fuel Safety: Mix fuel outdoors; use approved gasoline/oil mix (50:1).
  4. Kickback Awareness: Hold saw firmly; avoid tip contact; use reduced-kickback chain.

WARNING! Chainsaws are dangerous. Never operate when tired, under influence, or in poor weather. Always engage chain brake when not cutting.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach guide bar: Place bar onto sprocket, align with tensioning pin.
  2. Install chain: Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  3. Tension chain: Use tool-less tensioner to snug chain (pull up slightly from bar).
  4. Fill fluids: Add 50:1 fuel mix to fuel tank; fill bar oil tank with chainsaw oil.

CAUTION! Ensure chain brake is engaged during assembly. Check chain tension before each use.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls: Throttle trigger, throttle lockout, choke, stop switch, chain brake, decompression valve.

Handle Area: Front handle with chain brake lever, rear handle with throttle trigger. Right side: choke lever, decompression valve. Left side: stop switch.

Operation: Pull choke for cold start, push decompression valve, pull starter cord. Release choke once engine fires. Throttle lockout must be depressed to engage throttle. Chain brake engages automatically on kickback or manually by pushing guard forward.

Operation

Starting procedure and cutting techniques.

  1. Starting: Engage chain brake. Set choke, press decompression valve, pull starter cord 3-4 times until engine pops. Move choke to half, pull until starts. Warm up for 30 seconds.
  2. Cutting: Disengage chain brake. Hold saw firmly, let chain reach full speed before contacting wood. Use bottom of bar for cutting; avoid tip to prevent kickback.
  3. Refueling: Stop engine and allow to cool. Clean area around fuel cap. Use funnel to avoid spills.

Tip: Keep saw chain sharp; dull chain causes excessive wear and kickback.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures performance and longevity.

  1. Daily: Check chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Clean air filter.
  2. Weekly: Inspect spark plug, replace if fouled. Check fuel filter.
  3. Monthly: Clean cooling fins, check bar for wear, replace if grooved.
  4. Seasonally: Replace spark plug, fuel filter, and air filter. Grease sprocket bearing.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance. Use only Homelite-approved parts.

Chain & Bar Care

Proper chain and bar maintenance reduces wear and improves cutting.

Chain Sharpening: Use round file (5/32") and file guide. Maintain 30° cutting angle. File all cutters evenly. Depth gauges should be filed to 0.025" below cutter. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove weekly. Flip bar each time chain is sharpened to ensure even wear. Lubricate sprocket tip with grease gun.

Storage

Prepare chainsaw for extended storage.

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until it stops to clear carburetor.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil. Clean bar and coat with oil.
  3. Store in dry, cool place, away from children.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days. Fuel deteriorates and can damage engine.
