Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and chainsaw chaps or trousers.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 metres away. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel outdoors in well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Use fresh unleaded petrol mixed with 2-stroke oil at 50:1 ratio.
  4. Kickback Danger: Be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip). Never cut with the tip. Always hold saw firmly with both hands.
  5. Chain Brake Test: Test chain brake function before each use by engaging it with the front hand guard.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate a chainsaw while tired, under the influence of medication, alcohol, or drugs.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack all parts. Assembly requires attaching the guide bar and chain, and filling with fuel and oil.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar onto mounting studs. Loop chain around sprocket and onto bar, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top. Install bar cover nuts and tighten securely.
  2. Fill Chain Oil Tank: Use recommended bar and chain oil. Fill oil tank to maximum level.
  3. Mix Fuel: Mix fresh unleaded petrol (min. 90 octane) with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a 50:1 ratio (20ml oil per 1 litre of petrol). Shake well.
  4. Fill Fuel Tank: Add fuel mixture to tank. Avoid overfilling.
  5. Check Chain Tension: New chain will stretch. Adjust tension so chain snaps back when pulled from middle of bar. Re-tension after first 10 minutes of use.

CAUTION! Ensure chain is installed correctly. An incorrectly installed chain can derail or break, causing injury.

Controls and Components

Familiarise yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Main Controls:

Starting & Stopping the Engine

Cold Start Procedure:

  1. Place chainsaw on firm, level ground. Ensure chain is clear of obstructions.
  2. Engage chain brake by pushing front hand guard forward.
  3. Move stop switch to "I" (On).
  4. Push choke lever fully down.
  5. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  6. Press primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible.
  7. Place foot in rear handle and hold front handle firmly. Pull starter rope sharply until engine 'fires' (usually 3-5 pulls).
  8. Move choke lever halfway up to half-choke position.
  9. Pull starter rope again until engine starts. Engine will run at fast idle.
  10. Briefly squeeze throttle trigger to disengage half-choke. Allow engine to warm up for 30-60 seconds.
  11. Disengage chain brake by pulling hand guard back towards you. Saw is ready for use.

Warm Start: Follow steps 1-3 and 9-11 (no choke or primer needed).

Stopping: Release throttle, allow engine to idle, move stop switch to "O". Engage chain brake.

Operating the Chainsaw

Always maintain a firm grip with both hands. Thumbs wrapped underneath handles.

  1. Basic Cutting: Let the chain do the work. Apply light downward pressure. Do not force the saw.
  2. Felling Trees: Not recommended for untrained users. Plan escape path. Use proper notch and back cut techniques.
  3. Limbing: Cut branches from bottom side of felled tree. Beware of spring-back.
  4. Bucking (Cutting Logs): Support log off ground. Cut from top down. Avoid contact with ground (dulls chain).
  5. Kickback Prevention: Always be aware of bar tip. Never cut above shoulder height. Use a sharp chain.
  6. Chain Oiling: Check oil level frequently. Adjust oiler for dusty/dry conditions (more oil) or clean wood (less oil). A light line of oil should be visible on the bar during operation.

WARNING! Never operate the chainsaw with one hand. Do not cut with the upper tip of the bar. Always shut off engine before setting it down.

Maintenance & Storage

Regular maintenance ensures safety and longevity.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing any maintenance except refuelling.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

A sharp chain is safer and more efficient.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Using a scrench tool, turn tensioning screw clockwise until chain is snug against bar but can be pulled around by hand. Retighten bar nuts securely. Re-check tension when chain is cold.
  2. Sharpening: Use a round file matching chain pitch (e.g., 4.0mm for 3/8" LP). Secure bar in a vice. File each cutter at the manufacturer's specified angle (typically 30°). Maintain equal file strokes per cutter. File depth gauges (rakers) with a flat file and gauge to correct height (approx. 0.65mm below cutter).
  3. Replacing Chain/Bar: Replace chain when cutters are worn down or damaged. Flip bar periodically for even wear. Replace bar if groove is excessively worn or damaged.
