Safety Information

Read and understand all safety warnings before operation.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toed boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of bystanders, especially children. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Kickback Awareness: Be aware of kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar nose). Use reduced-kickback chain.
  4. Fuel Safety: Refuel in well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources. Use approved fuel mix.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Never operate chainsaw with one hand.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all components.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Loosen bar nuts, position chain on bar with cutters facing forward, align bar on studs, tighten nuts finger-tight.
  2. Tension Chain: Use side-access tensioner to adjust until chain snaps back when pulled from bar. Tighten bar nuts securely.
  3. Fill Fuel Tank: Use fresh 50:1 fuel mix (89 octane gasoline with Echo RED ARMOR® oil).
  4. Fill Oil Tank: Use Echo chainsaw bar & chain oil or equivalent.
  5. Check Controls: Ensure throttle trigger, lockout, and chain brake function properly.

CAUTION! Chain must be properly tensioned. Loose chain can derail; overtightened chain can damage bar.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Front Handle: Contains throttle trigger, throttle lockout, and chain brake lever.

Rear Handle: Contains start/stop switch, choke lever, primer bulb, decompression valve.

Other Components: Chain catcher, right-hand guard, muffler, spark arrestor, fuel cap, oil cap, bar nuts, chain tensioner.

Operation Controls: - Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed before throttle can be engaged. - Chain Brake: Manual activation via front hand guard; inertia activation during kickback. - Decompression Valve: Reduces pulling effort during starting. - Choke/Start Switch: Three positions: RUN, START/CHOKE, STOP.

Fuel & Lubrication

Fuel Mix: Use 89 octane unleaded gasoline mixed with Echo RED ARMOR® oil at 50:1 ratio (2.6 oz oil per 1 gallon gas).

  1. Mix fuel in approved container, not in chainsaw tank.
  2. Shake container thoroughly before refueling.
  3. Clean area around fuel cap before opening.
  4. Do not overfill; leave space for expansion.
  5. Use fresh fuel mix within 30 days.

Bar & Chain Oil: Use quality chainsaw oil. Check oil level frequently during operation. Adjust oil flow rate using screw near oil cap (clockwise to decrease, counterclockwise to increase).

Tip: In cold weather, use winter-grade bar oil for proper flow.

Starting & Operation

Cold Start Procedure:

  1. Place chainsaw on clear, level surface.
  2. Engage chain brake by pushing hand guard forward.
  3. Move start switch to START/CHOKE position.
  4. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  5. Pump primer bulb 5-6 times until fuel is visible.
  6. Pull starter rope briskly 2-3 times until engine fires.
  7. Move start switch to RUN position.
  8. Pull starter rope until engine starts.
  9. Disengage chain brake before cutting.

Warm Start: Start switch in RUN position, no choke needed.

Cutting Techniques: Use lower quadrant of bar for cutting. Let saw do the work; don't force. Be aware of pinch points, especially when cutting logs under tension.

WARNING! Always engage chain brake when starting, carrying, or moving between cuts.

Chain Maintenance

Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (5/32" for .325 chain).

  1. Secure bar in vise.
  2. File each cutter at 30° angle, maintaining original shape.
  3. File depth gauges with flat file to 0.025" below cutter top plate.
  4. Sharpen all cutters to same length.

Tensioning: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely. Re-tension when chain sags away from bar. Always check tension when chain is cool.

Rotation: Rotate bar periodically to ensure even wear. Flip bar each time chain is replaced.

Storage & Care

Short-term (under 30 days): Drain fuel tank, run engine until it stops to clear carburetor. Clean entire saw, especially air filter and cooling fins.

Long-term (over 30 days): Perform above steps plus: Remove spark plug, add 1 teaspoon of oil to cylinder, pull starter slowly to distribute, reinstall plug. Store in dry place, cover to prevent dust.

Cleaning: Use brush and compressed air to clean cooling fins, air filter, and clutch area. Never use water or pressure washer.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for extended periods. Fuel deterioration can damage carburetor.
