Parts Identification

Key components of the CS5800 chainsaw for reference during assembly and operation.

  1. Front Hand Guard / Chain Brake Lever
  2. Throttle Trigger & Lockout
  3. Rear Handle with Anti-Vibration
  4. Starter Grip
  5. Fuel Tank Cap
  6. Chain Oil Tank Cap
  7. Guide Bar & Cutting Chain

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and assemble your chainsaw before first use.

  1. Attach Guide Bar: Loosen bar nuts, position bar over studs, align chain drive links with sprocket.
  2. Install Chain: Place chain over bar with cutting edges facing forward; ensure proper direction.
  3. Tension Chain: Adjust tension screw until chain snaps back when pulled from bar.
  4. Secure Bar Nuts: Tighten nuts evenly; re-check tension after tightening.
  5. Fill Fuel: Use fresh 50:1 gasoline/oil mix (89 octane minimum).
  6. Fill Chain Oil: Use quality bar & chain oil; check oiler flow.
  7. Check Controls: Verify throttle, choke, and chain brake operate smoothly.

CAUTION! Ensure chain is properly tensioned—too loose may derail; too tight may damage.

Controls & Operation

Starting, running, and stopping procedures for safe operation.

Cold Start: Set chain brake ON. Move choke lever to FULL CHOKE. Press decompression valve (if equipped). Pull starter cord sharply until engine fires. Move choke to HALF. Pull again to start. Warm engine at idle for 30 seconds. Disengage chain brake.

Warm Start: Choke OFF. Pull starter cord.

Cutting Technique: Use lower part of bar for cutting; let chain do the work. Avoid pushing or forcing. For bucking, use support stands. For felling, plan escape path, use notch and back cut.

Stopping: Release throttle; allow idle. Press STOP switch to OFF.

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal cutting performance and longevity.

  1. Chain Sharpening: Use round file (size per specification) at 30° angle; maintain equal teeth length.
  2. Depth Gauge Setting: File depth gauges to 0.025" (0.65 mm) below cutting edge.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove; flip bar weekly for even wear.
  4. Chain Tension: Check frequently; adjust when chain sags from bar.
  5. Oiler Check: Verify oil flow by pointing bar at light surface; look for oil line.

Tip: Keep chain sharp—dull chains increase kickback risk and strain engine.

Engine Maintenance

Routine engine care for reliable operation.

  1. Air Filter: Clean weekly (more in dusty conditions). Replace if damaged.
  2. Spark Plug: Check gap (0.025"); replace annually or if fouled.
  3. Fuel Filter: Replace every 50 hours or if clogged.
  4. Muffler / Spark Arrestor: Clean screen every 25 hours.
  5. Cylinder Fins: Keep cooling fins clear of debris.
  6. Carburetor Adjustment: Factory set; only adjust if necessary by qualified technician.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance.

Storage Guidelines

Proper storage prevents fuel issues and corrosion.

  1. Empty fuel tank or add fuel stabilizer; run engine 2 minutes to circulate.
  2. Drain chain oil tank.
  3. Clean entire saw; remove sawdust and resin.
  4. Remove chain; clean and soak in oil; store separately.
  5. Store in dry, cool place, protected from dust and moisture.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days without stabilizer.
