Safety Information

Always wear proper PPE: helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toe boots.

  1. Clear work area of debris and bystanders.
  2. Inspect chainsaw before each use: chain sharpness, tension, and lubrication.
  3. Use proper fueling procedures: mix 50:1 with Echo Power Blend or equivalent oil.
  4. Never operate with damaged or missing parts.

WARNING! Kickback can cause severe injury. Maintain secure grip, keep chain sharp, and avoid contact with tip of guide bar.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack and inspect contents. Assemble guide bar and chain.

  1. Attach guide bar: Place bar on studs, align chain drive links with sprocket.
  2. Install chain: Ensure cutting teeth face forward on top of bar.
  3. Tension chain: Adjust side-access tensioner until chain snaps back when pulled from bar.
  4. Fill tanks: Add fuel mix to fuel tank, bar and chain oil to oil tank.

CAUTION! Use only Echo-approved bar and chain oil. Do not use motor oil or waste oil.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls: Throttle trigger, throttle trigger lockout, stop switch, choke, decompression valve, primer bulb.

Components: Front handle with anti-vibration, rear handle, chain brake, side-access chain tensioner, adjustable automatic oiler, spark arrestor muffler, air filter cover, fuel and oil caps.

Chain Brake: Manual activation via front hand guard; inertia-activated during kickback. Automatic Oiler: Adjustable dial for varying wood conditions (more oil for hard/dry wood). Decompression Valve: Push button to reduce cylinder pressure for easier starting.

Starting & Operation

Cold Start Procedure:

  1. Place on clear, level surface.
  2. Engage chain brake.
  3. Set stop switch to "I" (run).
  4. Push decompression valve.
  5. Full choke, press primer bulb 5-6 times.
  6. Pull starter rope until engine fires (1-3 pulls).
  7. Move choke to half position, pull until starts.
  8. Disengage chain brake before cutting.

Tip: Always warm up engine for 30 seconds before cutting.

Maintenance Schedule

Daily: Check chain tension, sharpness, lubrication. Clean air filter, check for loose fasteners.

Weekly: Clean spark arrestor screen, check spark plug gap (0.025 in), clean cooling fins.

Monthly: Clean fuel filter, replace air filter if needed, check anti-vibration mounts.

Seasonally: Replace spark plug, clean carburetor, inspect fuel lines.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (.325"). Maintain 30° top plate angle, 10° down angle.

  1. Secure bar in vise.
  2. File from inside out, maintaining consistent angle.
  3. File all cutters to same length.
  4. File depth gauges with flat file.

Tensioning: Chain should snap back when pulled from bar. Adjust with side-access tensioner while lifting bar tip.

CAUTION! Over-tightening can damage bar and chain. Chain should move freely when cool.

Storage

Long-term storage procedure:

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until carburetor is dry.
  2. Remove chain, clean and soak in oil.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins.
  4. Store in dry place, cover to prevent dust.

WARNING! Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days.
