Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach guide bar and chain: Loosen bar nuts, position bar, fit chain with cutting teeth facing forward, adjust tension.
  2. Fill fuel tank: Use fresh 50:1 fuel/oil mixture (89 octane minimum).
  3. Fill chain oil tank: Use Echo chain and bar oil or equivalent.
  4. Check controls: Ensure throttle trigger, lockout, and chain brake function properly.

WARNING! Always wear protective gear during assembly. Keep hands away from sharp chain.

Safety Precautions

Always operate chainsaw with proper safety equipment and awareness.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment: Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps, and steel-toe boots.
  2. Pre-Operation Check: Verify chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication before each use.
  3. Clear Work Area: Remove obstacles, ensure secure footing, and keep bystanders away.
  4. Safe Handling: Hold firmly with both hands, maintain balance, and never operate above shoulder height.

CAUTION! Kickback can occur suddenly. Always use chain brake and maintain proper grip.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main controls located on rear handle and body. Front Handle: Chain brake lever, throttle lockout. Rear Handle: Throttle trigger, master control lever, decompression valve.

Master Control Lever: Three positions - STOP (engine off), CHOKE (cold start), RUN (normal operation).

Chain Brake: Manual activation via front hand guard; inertial activation during kickback. Throttle Lockout: Must be depressed before throttle can be engaged. Decompression Valve: Reduces cylinder pressure for easier starting. Chain Tensioner: Side-access dial for quick adjustment.

Starting Procedure

Cold Start: Place on flat ground, engage chain brake, set master control to CHOKE, pull starter rope until engine fires, move to RUN, pull to start. Warm Start: Master control to RUN, pull starter.

  1. Clear area and ensure chain brake is engaged.
  2. Press decompression valve (cold engine only).
  3. Set master control to CHOKE (cold) or RUN (warm).
  4. Hold rear handle with right hand, place left foot through front handle.
  5. Pull starter rope briskly until engine fires.
  6. Move master control to RUN and pull again to start.
  7. Disengage chain brake before cutting.

Tip: Never drop-start or start above waist height.

Cutting Techniques

Basic cutting methods for felling, limbing, and bucking.

  1. Felling: Plan escape path, make notch cut 1/3 into tree, make felling cut opposite notch.
  2. Limbing: Stand uphill, cut from trunk outward, support limbs when possible.
  3. Bucking: Support log, cut from top down, avoid pinching chain.
  4. Kickback Prevention: Keep nose of bar away from objects, maintain firm grip, use sharp chain.
  5. Pushing/Pulling: Recognize when chain is binding; use wedges for pinched bars.

WARNING! Always cut at full throttle. Never cut with tip of bar.

Maintenance Schedule

Daily: Check chain tension, sharpness, lubrication. Clean air filter, check for loose parts. Weekly: Clean cooling fins, spark arrestor screen, external surfaces. Monthly: Replace spark plug, clean fuel filter, check fuel lines. Seasonally: Replace air filter, inspect bar for wear, clean clutch drum.

Chain Sharpening

Use round file and guide to maintain 30° cutting angle.

  1. Secure bar and engage chain brake.
  2. File each cutter from inside out at 30° angle.
  3. Maintain consistent pressure; file all cutters equally.
  4. Check depth gauges with gauge tool; file if above specification.
  5. Clean filed chain and lubricate before use.

CAUTION! Wear gloves when handling chain. Ensure proper filing angle.

Storage Guidelines

Long-term storage preparation to prevent fuel system damage.

  1. Drain fuel tank and run engine until carburetor is dry.
  2. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil.
  3. Clean entire saw, especially cooling fins and air filter.
  4. Store in dry, cool place away from ignition sources.
  5. Use fuel stabilizer if storing with fuel.

CAUTION! Never store with fuel in tank for more than 30 days.
