Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operating. Always wear proper protective equipment.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps/pants, and steel-toed boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Clear area of bystanders, pets, and obstacles. Ensure secure footing.
  3. Fuel Safety: Refuel in well-ventilated area with engine OFF and cool. Use proper fuel/oil mix.
  4. Kickback Awareness: Understand kickback zone (upper quadrant of bar tip). Use reduced-kickback chain and proper cutting techniques.
  5. Chain Brake Test: Test chain brake function before each use.

WARNING! Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Keep hands away from moving chain. Never operate while tired or under the influence.

Assembly & First-Time Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a clean, flat surface.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Loosen bar nuts. Place chain over sprocket, ensuring cutting teeth face forward on top of bar. Position bar onto studs. Adjust tension (see section 9). Tighten bar nuts finger-tight.
  2. Fill Oil Tank: Use high-quality bar and chain oil. Fill to marked level.
  3. Prepare Fuel Mix: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (89 octane minimum) mixed with 2-cycle engine oil at 40:1 ratio (3.2 oz oil per 1 gallon gas). Shake well.
  4. Fill Fuel Tank: Add fuel mixture to tank. Avoid overfilling.
  5. Final Checks: Ensure all fasteners are tight. Check chain brake operation.

CAUTION! Never use automotive motor oil or straight gasoline. Improper fuel mix will damage engine.

Controls and Components

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Main Controls:

Operation Instructions

Starting Procedure (Cold Engine):

  1. Place saw on flat, clear ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Set Master Control Lever to CHOKE position.
  3. Press primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible.
  4. Pull starter rope briskly 3-5 times until engine "pops".
  5. Move Master Control Lever to RUN position.
  6. Pull starter rope again to start engine. Allow to idle for 30 seconds.
  7. Disengage chain brake by pulling hand guard toward rear handle.

Starting Procedure (Warm Engine): Skip choke. Set lever to RUN and pull starter.

Cutting Techniques:

Stopping: Release throttle, allow to idle briefly. Push Master Control Lever to STOP position.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Perform regular maintenance for optimal performance and safety.

  1. Daily (Before Each Use):
    • Check chain tension and sharpen if dull.
    • Check bar and chain oil level.
    • Inspect chain brake function.
    • Check all fasteners for tightness.
    • Clean air intake and cooling fins.
  2. Weekly/Heavy Use:
    • Clean spark arrestor screen in muffler.
    • Clean or replace air filter.
    • Check spark plug condition and gap (0.025").
    • Clean fuel filter in tank.
  3. Cleaning: Use brush and cloth to remove sawdust, dirt, and resin. Never use water or pressure washer.

CAUTION! Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing maintenance. Allow engine to cool completely.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

Chain Tensioning: Chain should be snug against bar but pull freely by hand.

  1. Loosen bar nuts with combination wrench.
  2. Turn tensioning screw clockwise to tighten chain until cutters just contact bar.
  3. Lift tip of bar up, then tighten bar nuts securely (snug, not over-tightened).
  4. Re-check tension after tightening nuts.

Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (.325"). Maintain 30° filing angle. File all cutters to equal length. File depth gauges with flat file when needed.

Tip: Sharpen chain frequently - a sharp chain cuts faster, safer, and reduces wear.

Storage Guidelines

For storage longer than 30 days:

  1. Drain fuel tank completely or add fuel stabilizer and run engine for 2 minutes.
  2. Run engine until it stops to empty carburetor.
  3. Remove chain, clean, and soak in oil. Clean bar groove and oil.
  4. Clean entire saw thoroughly.
  5. Store in dry, cool place away from ignition sources.
  6. Cover to prevent dust accumulation.

WARNING! Never store with fuel in tank for extended periods without stabilizer. Gasoline degrades and can damage carburetor.
