Operation

How to safely operate your chainsaw.

Starting: Press and hold the lock-off button, then squeeze the trigger. Release the trigger to stop.

Cutting Technique:

  1. Plan your cut and escape path. Ensure stable footing.
  2. Let the chain do the work; apply light, steady pressure.
  3. For felling, notch the tree on the fall side, then make the felling cut from the opposite side.
  4. Use the bottom of the guide bar for cutting; avoid contact with the ground.

Automatic Oiling: The saw oils the chain during operation. Use the manual oiler button for additional lubrication before starting a cut.

Chain Maintenance

Proper chain care ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Tensioning: Chain should be snug against the bar but pull freely by hand. Adjust using the tool-free tensioning knob. Re-tension when chain feels loose.
  2. Sharpening: Use a round file and file guide. Maintain the original cutting angle. Sharpen when saw produces fine dust instead of chips.
  3. Lubrication: Always keep the oil tank filled with bar and chain oil. Check oil level frequently during use.
  4. Inspection: Regularly check for damaged, cracked, or worn drive links, cutters, and tie straps. Replace the chain if damaged.

Tip: A sharp, well-lubricated chain is safer and more efficient.

Battery & Charging

Care and use of the 20V MAX* Lithium Ion Battery.

  1. Charging: Use only the Black & Decker charger (model specific). Insert battery into charger; LED indicates charging status.
  2. Storage: Store battery at room temperature. For long-term storage, charge to about 50% capacity.
  3. Runtime: Varies based on battery Ah rating (e.g., 2.0Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah) and cutting application.
  4. Disposal: Do not dispose of in household trash. Recycle at an authorized service center.

WARNING! Do not charge a damaged battery. Do not expose battery to fire or excessive heat.

Storage

Store your chainsaw properly to prolong its life.

1. Remove the battery. 2. Clean the chainsaw of all debris. 3. Empty the oil tank or ensure the cap is secure to prevent leaks. 4. Apply a light coat of oil to the guide bar to prevent rust. 5. Store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Always store with the chain guard in place.
