Safety Information

Read and understand all instructions before use. Always wear appropriate PPE.

  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, chainsaw chaps/pants, and sturdy boots.
  2. Work Area Safety: Keep bystanders and pets at least 15 feet away. Ensure secure footing. Do not operate in wet conditions.
  3. Kickback Zone: Be aware of the upper quadrant of the guide bar tip. Avoid contact with this area during cutting.
  4. Pre-Operation Check: Inspect chain sharpness, tension, and lubrication. Check for loose parts or damage.

WARNING! Kickback can cause severe injury or death. Always hold chainsaw firmly with both hands. Never operate above shoulder height or with one hand.

Assembly & Preparation

Unpack all parts. Assembly typically requires attaching the guide bar and chain, and filling fluids.

  1. Attach Guide Bar & Chain: Place bar on mounting studs. Loop chain around sprocket and bar with cutting teeth facing forward on top. Adjust tension.
  2. Fill Engine Oil: Use high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a 50:1 fuel/oil ratio (check manual). Mix thoroughly in a separate fuel can.
  3. Fill Bar & Chain Oil: Use specified bar and chain oil. Fill the oil reservoir.
  4. Check Chain Tension: Chain should be snug against the bar but pull freely by hand. Re-tension after initial use.

CAUTION! Use only recommended fuels and lubricants. Improper mixture can cause engine damage.

Specifications

Controls and Components

Main Controls: Throttle trigger, throttle lockout, stop switch, choke lever, primer bulb, chain brake lever, decompression valve (if equipped).

Components: Front handguard/chain brake, rear handle with throttle, top handle, fuel cap, oil cap, spark plug, air filter cover, muffler, side-mounted chain tensioner.

Operation: Depress throttle lockout to allow throttle trigger movement. Engage chain brake by pushing handguard forward. Use choke for cold starts.

Starting & Stopping the Engine

Cold Start:

  1. Place chainsaw on firm, flat ground. Engage chain brake.
  2. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  3. Move choke lever to FULL CHOKE position. Press primer bulb 5-6 times.
  4. Hold front handle firmly with left hand, place right foot in rear handle. Pull starter rope briskly until engine 'pops'.
  5. Move choke lever to HALF CHOKE. Pull starter rope until engine starts.
  6. Blip throttle to disengage choke. Allow 30-second warm-up.

Warm Start: Choke OFF. Follow steps 4-6.

Stopping: Release throttle. Press and hold the STOP switch until engine stops.

Operating Instructions

Proper cutting techniques ensure safety and efficiency.

  1. Basic Stance: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, left foot slightly forward. Hold handles firmly with both hands, thumbs wrapped underneath.
  2. Making a Cut: Let the chain do the work. Apply light downward pressure. Do not force the saw.
  3. Buckling (Cutting Fallen Logs): Support log off ground. Cut from top. For large logs, cut 1/3 from top, then finish from bottom to avoid pinching.
  4. Limbing: Cut branches from bottom of tree working toward top. Keep trunk between you and the chain.
  5. Felling Trees: For experienced users only. Plan escape path. Make notch cut and back cut. Retreat along planned path.

WARNING! Never operate a chainsaw while fatigued or under the influence of medication, alcohol, or drugs.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalTask
Before Each UseCheck chain tension, sharpness, and lubrication. Inspect for loose fasteners. Check fuel/oil levels.
Every 5 HoursClean air filter. Check spark plug condition.
Every 10 HoursClean cooling fins. Check fuel filter.
Every 20 HoursClean spark arrestor screen in muffler (if equipped).
End of SeasonDrain fuel for storage. Perform complete cleaning and inspection.

Chain Sharpening & Tensioning

A sharp, properly tensioned chain is critical for safety and performance.

  1. Tensioning: Loosen bar nuts. Use adjustment screw to raise bar until chain is snug. Chain should pull freely from bar but not sag. Tighten bar nuts securely.
  2. Sharpening: Use correct round file size (typically 5/32" or 3/16"). File each cutter at the manufacturer's specified angle (usually 30°). Maintain equal file strokes per cutter. File depth gauges (rakers) with a flat file and gauge.

Tip: Sharpen chain frequently. A dull chain requires more force, increases wear, and raises kickback risk.

Storage Guidelines

Prepare chainsaw for storage to prevent fuel system damage and corrosion.

  1. Drain all fuel from the tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor.
  2. Remove chain and bar. Clean thoroughly, soak bar in oil, and hang.
  3. Clean entire saw. Wipe metal parts with an oiled cloth.
  4. Store in a dry, cool place, out of reach of children.

CAUTION! Never store chainsaw with fuel in the tank for more than 30 days. Stale fuel can damage engine components.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Engine will not startNo spark, old fuel, flooded engine, clogged air filterCheck spark plug; use fresh fuel mix; wait if flooded; clean/replace air filter.
Engine starts then diesClogged fuel filter, carburetor issues, vented fuel capReplace fuel filter; clean carburetor; ensure fuel cap vent is clear.
Chain does not turnChain brake engaged, low chain oil, worn sprocketDisengage chain brake; fill oil tank; inspect clutch/sprocket.
Excessive vibrationLoose components, damaged anti-vibration mounts, unbalanced chainTighten all fasteners; inspect mounts; sharpen chain evenly.
Chain throws oil excessivelyOil pump setting too highAdjust oil flow rate screw (if adjustable).
Poor cutting performanceDull chain, incorrect filing, low engine powerSharpen chain correctly; check engine compression and carburetor adjustment.
