Starting & Operation

Starting procedure for cold and warm engines.

Cold Start:

  1. Place saw on flat, clear ground.
  2. Engage chain brake.
  3. Move ignition switch to ON.
  4. Set choke lever to FULL CHOKE.
  5. Press decompression valve (if equipped).
  6. Pull starter rope sharply until engine fires (1-3 pulls).
  7. Move choke to HALF CHOKE, pull until engine starts.
  8. Allow to warm up 30 seconds, then disengage chain brake.

Warm Start: Use HALF CHOKE or no choke; pull starter rope.

Cutting Techniques: Use lower part of bar for cutting; let chain do the work; avoid pinching.

Chain & Bar Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Chain Sharpening: Use round file matching chain pitch (usually 3/8" LP). File at 30° angle; maintain equal tooth length.
  2. Chain Tension: Check frequently when new; chain should snap back when pulled from bar.
  3. Bar Maintenance: Clean bar groove; flip bar each time chain is sharpened for even wear.
  4. Sprocket: Inspect for wear; replace if teeth are hooked or damaged.
  5. Air Filter: Clean weekly with soapy water or replace if damaged.
  6. Spark Plug: Clean and regap to 0.025" every 10 hours; replace annually.

Tip: Keep chain sharp—dull chains cause kickback and strain engine.
